Acer v7 Battery Threshold

Some laptops have an option to charge the battery to 50%/80% in order to reduce wear and therefore increase the batteries lifetime.  Does the v7-482PG-6662 model have this feature?

I'm not aware of any laptops with this particular option.

The systems are all designed to charge to capacity, which is 100%.

Thanks for the response Tommy.  I'm assuming Acer laptops lack this power management feature.  Many laptops from other companies support charging to a particular threshold (50%/80%). It looks like the only way to accomplish this with Acer laptops is by user management alone.

I find that interesting.  Can you please point me to the information for those specific units?

I would be glad to feedback that information to the appropriate parties.

My Sony Vaio VPCF115FM has this exact feature where I can charge to 50%, 80% or 100%

Can you detail that feature for me please?

What software is required to utilize the function?

Yes Tommy some particular make laptop has that feature. Trickle charge is the technology used for charging in most of the model latops. In some make laptop it has a piece of hardware which is controlled by software, the user can set the charging threshold in some model laptop the BIOS has the option to set the threshold. This will increase the life of the battery and need less battery calibration.

Thank you for the information, guys.

I'll be sure this gets forwarded as a suggestion for our systems.

I'm glad this has been recognized. I have also noticed this option on Samsung laptops where charging stops at 80% and let the AC run the laptop useful for units where the battery is non-removable.

I hope Acer will be able to release a bios update for this as well as make use of the power optimization applied on Haswell processors.

It sounds like there's going to be more than BIOS/UEFI involved in making this work.

    Likely, additional hardware and software.

Thanks everyone for weighing in with examples.  I had lost track of this thread.

Acer-Tommy, I believe you are correct.  My own research into this indicates that there is special circuitry on the battery itself (or perhaps at some other point -- i'm not exactly sure) provided by those companies that supports this functionality. Unless Acer already has the hardware in place, a BIOS update will not be sufficient.

Lenovo ideapad and Thinkpad also have this feature.
