Window 8.1 Woes

Since upgrading to 8.1 my Aspire V5 has been really laggy both while on the internet and when just running the normal programs. Everything seems to take a lot of "thinking". Even the responsiveness of the touch screen seems off.
Also I have noticed some issues with wireless and programs that worked on 8 not working well on 8.1. Yesterday my laptop dropped my wireless signal multiple times while sitting right next to the access point.
I also have a problem with Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. This program worked fine on 8, but since the 8.1 download I get a message that program needs to downloaded again when I open the Windows Desktop. I did just that and still was met with issues. After the new download AnyConnect would show up in my bottom tool bar where it always had. I also had to go in and enable it which I have never had to did. I was able to final get it to work and connect to my work VPN, but then today AnyConnect is gone again and I am met again with a message that I need to download it for the program to work.
So bottom line is how bad did I screw up downloading 8.1 from the Windows Store and not direct from Acre? Can I download Acre's 8.1 download right over the top of what I have already done?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First check for windows updates and hopes the rollup 1 updates fix your issue. but if it doesn't fix it. I recommend you to get back to Windows 8 until they fix it properly! or wait until Acer gives a beter solution!.

    Hi awol12,

I found the same problems when I downloaded and installed windows 8.1 on my Acer Aspire V5. Very sloooooowwwww.  At first I regretted making the upgrade and thought I would have to go back to Win 8.0 again.

But, now everything works great. My computer's speed, laggy mouse and wireless problems were all fixed after I updated the drivers for my Aspire V5  laptop. Fortunately I found all the drivers I needed on the Acer website - look for those specific for windows 8.1.

Maybe it will be the same for you.

The only problem I have found since upgrading to win 8.1 is the audio driver for Dolby advanced audio has an error message on boot up even after installing the updated Conexant audio driver. Other than that the speed is now back to normal complete with the new 8.1 features.

    Hope this help you, too!

Not sure how you can go back to win 8.0, but I am sure it is possible.

But before you go back, did you check the Acer drivers and download page (specific for your model) for an upgraded driver for your video card after you installed win 8.1?

Once I installed the new drivers for win 8.1 my computer was fine.

I got in contact with Acer support via chat and the gentleman had me download a BIOS update, but that seems to have done nothing.

I also checked out the drivers page based on the suggestions here, but got very limited success. My laptop is an Aspire V5-572P and when going in and looking for drivers it was pretty limited. Since I was having issues with my Wifi I downloaded the Atheros Driver, but when I went to update Windows told me the driver was up to date.

At this point I am kind of lost. The BIOS update did nothing and I am totally lost on why the driver was found to be up to date and I don't want to mess with downloading a bunch of drivers to only find that they do nothing.

About the video card error go to NVIDIA and download the latest beta driver and if the problem still occurs provide me with the error message Smiley Happy

How old is your computer? My laptop is an Aspire V5-551 purchased in December 2012. You might want to take a look at my specific model (V5-551) on the ACER drivers and downloads section so you can see how many drivers I had to download and update to get my laptop running smoothly after installing Win 8.1. If your computer is the same vintage as mine there are perhaps as many drivers (but different ones than mine) needing updating for your model as well before you would be happy with Win 8.1. If all else fails then back to Win 8.0.
