Extremely slow 0.5mbps wi-fi download speed on Aspire 7741G-6426

I have extremely slow wireless download speed 0.5 mbps. Wireless upload speed is ok around 5 mbps. Wired download speed is perfect around 16 mbps. Only wi-fi download speed sucks. I replaced Atheros AR5B97 WLAN card but didn't help. I run Windows 7-64bit. I have another Acer laptop Aspire 5820T-6825 which is perfectly fine which meens that wireless Router Linksys WRT160 is working fine. I have this problem for some time so I reinstaled Windows 7 and updated Atheros wireless driver. Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Update the chipset drivers too.. and btw are the other devices connected to the router ok? You should check your laptops wifi standart support (a/b/g/n) and your routers... also there could be a problem if you live in a place with lots of ppl that use wifi. In this case you can change the routers channel - 192.168.0.1 to access the routers control panel. Smiley Happy

If so why my other Aspire 5820T-6825 works perfectly? Download WLAN speed is perfect around 16 mbps.

Are you using an external monitor, I find those really affect wifi speeds. I also use INSSIDER to find signal strength received and if something else is using the same channel. If you use that on both devices and find wildly different signal strengths you may have a hardware issue (like a disconnected antenna).

So it could be possible that disconected antenna affects only download speed but not upload speed (0.5 mbps vs. 5 mbps)? I don't use any monitor. I use speed tests. Its happens also with only one laptop on and any other devices off.
