Touchpad/Scrollpad not working properly - Acer aspire e1

Hello there, first post as I have recently just joined the acer club and bought myself a nice acer aspire e1-571

My first post concerns the touch/scrollpad on my new laptop. Ever since startup I have noticed that the touchpad is slow/sluggish and the scrollpad doesn’t function at all.

My first question I guess is - Should it be like this from startup?

When I went into the mouse settings under control panel I set the speed to high but it still feels sluggish and there appears to be no settings to enable the scrollpad to work.

After a bit of searching about online I decided to check the drivers. The machine comes with Elantech, however when I go into this tab the options box is greyed out so I am unable to access. When I checked my driver it appears that I am upto date

Any ideas?

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks

    hi...

I definitely know that this could be frustrating when you have some issue with new computer.

Since this is new computer there are many new updates released for this computer after it has been shipped from the factory.

As per your information you have informed that Elan is the touchpad device.

You may right click and the Rlan touch pad in device manager and check the driver version.

If the driver version is 11.6.8.1, you need to upadte the touch pad drivers to version 11.6.24.203.

    Hi Sharanji,

Thank you for your reply. I am not currently using the computer but I did check the drivers from both the settings and acer support last night and can confirm that the driver version (which isn’t working) is  11.6.24.203.

    Regards

After further digging, I'm having the exact same issues as described in this post:

    http://community.acer.com/t5/Notebooks-Netbooks/TouchPad-gestures-not-working-Aspire-V5/m-p/108269/highlight/true#M22186

it is recognised as a mouse, sensitivity slow, no gestures, no scroll etc, options box greyed out.

I am not very tech savvy - can someone recommend what i do to resolve please?

For some unknown reason when i installed the latest Alps driver my touchpad and functions work. Strange when it's an ELAN touchpad with ELAN driver pre-installed.

    Anyone know why this is?
