I used the process detailed by Grombie in another forum labeled "secure boot message problem after upgrading windows to 8.1"   It worked and I know longer have the issue.

    1. start/restart your computer then press F2 to enter the bios. (your computer may have a different button to push)

    2. go to security tab and set supervisor password. (i used 1234 for simplicity)

    3.  go to boot tab and make sure secure boot is enabled. (mine was already)

    4. return to security tab and select "reset secure boot settings to factory default"

    5. F10 to exit and save

This process worked for me and I tried quite a few other solutions,  Big thanks to Grombie

i would like to add i did this recomendation it didnt work the first time so i did one thing different. before i reset to factory settings like it says. i togggled the secureboot from enabled to disabled and back to enabled. because mine was enabled all along. and like i said the first time it didnt work. it now seems to have fixed the issue. thanks for the help, oh by the way one thing i havnt seenis with this not configured, does it make the computer more vulnerable ?

I had same problem I followed instructions here and seems to work. But, now some of my tool bar add ons don't work. They say incompatible. i tried to download them again and get an error saying the os system isn't right. It was yahoo tool bar and the Norton tool bar. Any fix to this. I followed the windows 8.1 update from windows on initial install.
