Hello everyone, suddenly my AN515-58 laptop started making a sound like electricity or static, it wasn’t the usual fan noise… for now I solved it by restarting the PC, and after rebooting the sound disappeared, but I’m a bit worried about what could have caused that electricity or static-like noise inside the laptop. Has this happened to anyone?

Hi, Coil Whine is quite normal with powerful laptops, you can try to mitigate that noise using another wall outlet that is properly grounded, also reversing the AC polarity of the wall outlet will help using a 2-pin adapter by inserting it 180 degrees if the wall outlet will allow that. Avoid extension cords an power panels.

Try plugging the laptop into a different power outlet—preferably one that’s well-grounded and stable—to reduce the chance of electrical interference. Finally, make sure your audio and chipset drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can sometimes lead to sound-related issues.

    Possible causes
Coil Whine: This is a common phenomenon in powerful laptops, where electrical components vibrate at certain loads, causing an audible buzzing or whining sound.
Audio Driver Issues: Outdated, corrupt, or incompatible audio drivers can cause various audio problems, including static or buzzing noises.
Interference from Power Supply: Electrical interference or grounding problems with the power adapter or outlet can manifest as static noise.
Fan Vibration or Bearing Issue: A faulty fan or worn-out bearing can create rattling or whirring noises.
Loose Internal Connections: Loose cables or components inside the laptop might be causing intermittent issues, including static sounds.

    Potential solutions
Restart the Laptop: This often resolves temporary glitches causing the static noise, as you've already experienced.
Check for Coil Whine: If it's coil whine, try plugging the laptop into a different, properly grounded wall outlet and/or reversing the AC polarity if safe and allowed by your region's outlet type.
Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers: Go to Device Manager, uninstall the current audio driver, then restart. Windows should reinstall a generic driver. If the issue persists, install the latest driver from the official Acer support website for your specific AN515-58 model.
Test for Interference from Power Supply: Try a different power adapter or outlet to rule out electrical interference or grounding issues.
Check for Fan Issues: Listen for the noise's source. If it seems to be from the fans, check if they are clogged with dust. Consider cleaning them with compressed air if you are comfortable opening the laptop
