    Hi @debarghyam ,

If the webcam was working previously and has recently stopped — even after checking drivers and privacy settings — it’s worth trying the newer Windows Update–based In‑place Recovery before moving on to more invasive repairs. This process reinstalls the current Windows build directly from Microsoft’s servers, refreshing system files and update components while keeping your files, apps, and settings intact.

    Steps:

    1. Sign in with an administrator account, connect to the internet, and ensure at least 20 GB free on C:.
    2. Press Win + ISystemRecovery.
    3. Under Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
    4. Follow the prompts, let it complete the download/reinstall, then restart.

    Getting this error

The error code 0x80004005 is a generic "unspecified error" that often indicates a problem with accessing files or folders, especially during Windows updates or file transfers. It can also occur when extracting compressed files or when there are network-related issues.

Here's a breakdown of the potential causes and solutions:-
    Common Causes:
Access Denied/Permissions Issues: The user account might not have the necessary permissions to access a specific file or folder.
File System Problems: Errors within the file system can prevent access to files and folders.
Windows Update Problems: Corrupted Windows Update files or network issues can trigger this error during updates.
Compressed File Issues: Problems with extracting compressed files, particularly those with encryption or specific formats.
Network Connectivity Issues: Problems connecting to shared folders or network resources can also lead to this error.
Software Conflicts: Certain software or programs might be interfering with file access.
Antivirus Interference: Antivirus software can sometimes block access to files, causing this error.

    Troubleshooting Steps:
Check Permissions: Ensure the user account has the necessary permissions to access the file or folder in question.
Restart: A simple restart can resolve temporary glitches and network issues.
Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: This built-in tool can identify and fix common Windows Update problems.
Run System File Checker (SFC): Use sfc /scannow in the command prompt (as administrator) to scan and repair corrupted system files.
Try Different Extraction Tools: If the error occurs while extracting files, try using alternative tools like 7-Zip or WinRAR.
Disable Antivirus Temporarily: If you suspect antivirus interference, temporarily disable it to see if the issue resolves.
Check Network Settings: Ensure proper network configuration and connectivity, especially when accessing shared resources.
Reinstall .NET Framework: In some cases, reinstalling the latest version of .NET Framework can resolve the error.
Update Windows: Ensure your Windows operating system is up to date with the latest updates.

Start by checking the privacy settings in Windows to ensure camera access is enabled for both the system and apps. Then, open Device Manager and update the driver if available. Running Windows Update and installing any pending updates, especially optional ones, can also help resolve compatibility issues. Restarting the laptop may fix temporary glitches, and testing the camera using the built-in Camera app can confirm if the issue is app-specific. Lastly, make sure there’s no physical shutter or privacy switch blocking the webcam.
