Acer aspire S32-1856 AIO Touchpad needs manual toggle after every boot to work

Can anyone tell me if the touchpad needs to be switched off then on each time after booting up to get it to work or should it be live like the mouse please. I have the latest Windows 11 updates and the latest bios and Serial IO drivers but have to manually switch off the touchpad and then on again each time the computer boots.

    Hi Andy_T,

That behaviour’s been seen on both 23H2 and 24H2 — after a cold boot (full shutdown + power‑on), the touchpad sometimes doesn’t initialize until it’s toggled off/on. To rule out software/driver timing issues:

    1. Check exact Windows build (winver). If still on 23H2, update to 24H2 for the latest HID/I²C stack fixes.
    2. Reinstall Chipset + Serial IO from the S32‑1856 support page, even if Device Manager shows them as “latest.”
    3. In BIOS, ensure “Internal Pointing Device”/“Touchpad” is set to Enabled (not Auto).
    4. Test with Fast Startup disabled — some I²C devices initialise more reliably from a true cold boot.

If it still drops out after these steps, it may be a firmware/driver race that needs an Acer patch.

Thanks, all of them are as you suggest with the exception of the

    1. In BIOS, ensure “Internal Pointing Device”/“Touchpad” is set to Enabled (not Auto).

as I can't see this in the bios although it's the latest firmware. It's still not working so could you tell me where I get a firmware/driver race from please. Kind regards Andy

The touchpad on your Acer Aspire S32-1856 All-in-One needs to be manually toggled on after every boot due to a potential software or driver issue. This can be resolved by checking touchpad settings in Windows, ensuring the driver is up to date, or potentially resetting BIOS to default settings.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of potential solutions:-

    1. Check Touchpad Settings in Windows:
Open Settings: Press the Windows key and type "Settings", then select it.
Go to Devices: Click on "Devices" (or "Bluetooth & devices" in newer versions of Windows).
Select Touchpad: Choose "Touchpad" from the left-hand menu.
Toggle the Switch: Ensure the "Touchpad" toggle switch is set to "On".
Check for Additional Settings: Some Acer laptops have additional touchpad settings within this section, like sensitivity or gestures. Adjust them if needed.
    2. Check for Driver Issues:
Open Device Manager: Press the Windows key, type "Device Manager," and select it.
Find Touchpad: Look for "Mice and other pointing devices" or "Human Interface Devices."
Uninstall/Reinstall Driver: Right-click on your touchpad device and select "Uninstall device." After uninstalling, right-click anywhere in Device Manager and select "Scan for hardware changes." This will reinstall the driver.
Update Driver: If uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work, try updating the driver. Right-click the touchpad device, select "Update driver," and choose "Search automatically for drivers".
    3. Check BIOS Settings:
Restart your computer: Shut down and restart your computer.
Enter BIOS/UEFI: During startup, repeatedly press the F2 or Delete key (or as specified by your Acer manual) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
Locate Touchpad Settings: Look for touchpad settings, which might be under "Advanced" or a similar category.
Enable Touchpad: Ensure the touchpad is enabled within the BIOS settings.
Save and Exit: Save the changes and exit the BIOS/UEFI settings.

Thanks, I have done all of the above bar the Bios setting as I can't see anything in there which relates to Touchpad. I have set the Bios to defaults just to be sure nothing had changed but still not working unless I switch the Touchpad off then on again. My Windows 11 Home has all the up to date drivers too.
