Hi everyone,
I have a Predator Helios Neo 14 that goes completely black screen whenever I plug in the charger. When I unplug it, everything returns to normal and works fine.

Has anyone experienced this issue? Is there anything I can try to fix it myself before sending it for repair?

Thanks in advance!

Start by performing an EC reset. Shut down the laptop, unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to clear any residual power, then reconnect the charger and power it on. Next, visit Acer’s official support website, enter your exact model number, and download the latest BIOS, chipset, and power management drivers to ensure your system firmware is up to date. Lastly, confirm that you're using the original Acer charger.

Hi! It sounds like your Predator Helios Neo 14 is experiencing a power-related display issue. Since it works fine on battery but goes black when charging, it could be related to drivers, BIOS, or the internal power circuit. Here are some steps you can try before sending it for repair:

    1. Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure both your integrated and dedicated GPU drivers are up to date. Sometimes power changes trigger GPU switching issues.
    2. BIOS Update: Check Acer’s support site for the latest BIOS version. Some black screen issues on charging have been fixed via BIOS updates.
    3. Check Power Settings: Go to Windows Power Options → Change plan settings → Advanced power settings → Disable “Hybrid Sleep” and check display settings when plugged in.
    4. Test Another Charger (if possible): Sometimes a faulty charger can cause voltage fluctuations affecting the display.
    5. Reset EC/BIOS: Some Acer laptops allow a small reset button or a key combination (like holding Fn + Power for 10–15 seconds) to reset embedded controllers.

If none of these work, it might be a hardware issue with the power delivery or internal components, and getting it checked by Acer service would be safest🙂.

Experiencing a completely black screen on your Acer Helios Neo 14 whenever you plug in the charger can be quite concerning. This issue could stem from several factors, ranging from minor software glitches to more serious hardware malfunctions.

Here's a breakdown of potential causes and troubleshooting steps you can try:
    Possible causes
Graphics Driver Issues: Outdated or corrupted display drivers can interfere with how your laptop handles display output, especially when switching between battery and AC power, according to Tom's Guide Forum.
Power Management Settings: Incorrect power management settings in Windows or the Acer software might be configured to turn off the display or dim it excessively when plugged into the charger.
Refresh Rate Changes: Some laptops, including gaming models like the Helios Neo series, automatically adjust the display's refresh rate when switching between battery and AC power. This momentary adjustment can sometimes manifest as a black screen flicker or blanking out, says Reddit user Famous_Archer_9406.
Faulty Charger or Battery: While less likely if the laptop otherwise functions on battery, a problem with the charger or battery could be impacting the system's power delivery and causing display issues.
BIOS Issues: A corrupted or outdated BIOS might also be contributing to the problem.

Hardware Malfunction: In some cases, a black screen can indicate a hardware issue with the graphics card, the display itself, or the connection between them.
    Troubleshooting steps
    Check Power Management Settings:
Go to "Control Panel" and then "Power Options".
Next to your currently selected power plan, click "Change Plan Settings".
    Click "Change Advanced Power Settings".
Review the display settings and ensure they are not set to turn off the display when the laptop is plugged in.
Click "Apply" and "OK," then restart your laptop.
    Update or Reinstall Graphics Drivers:
Boot into Safe Mode (refer to specific instructions for your Windows version).
Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
Expand "Display adapters," right-click your graphics card, and select "Update driver".
If that doesn't work, try "Uninstall device" and then restart your laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.
