There are 2 RAM slots. But one of them has never been used. Now I bought a new RAM module to upgrade the machine to find that the slot is not work.

What I have done is cleaning the slot with contact cleaner. But it is still not work.

What else can I do to make it usable?

Thank you for your guidance. But I verified the newly bought RAM module that it’s compatible with the unproblematic RAM slot. I also checked the problematic slot alone using the old RAM module and found that the computer would not boost, I mean nothing was shown on the screen.

My question is what can I do to fix the RAM slot in problem?

    Thanks again anyway.

To potentially fix a non-working RAM slot on an Acer Aspire XC-330-W PC, you can try cleaning the slot with compressed air and a soft brush, ensuring it's free of dust and debris. If cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, try reseating the RAM module, making sure it clicks securely into place. If the problem persists, the slot might be damaged, and you may need to consult a professional or consider replacing the motherboard.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    1. Cleaning the RAM slot:
    Power down and unplug:
Ensure the computer is completely powered off and unplugged from the power source.
    Open the case:
Carefully open the computer case according to the Acer Aspire XC-330-W's instructions or user manual.
    Locate the RAM slot:
Identify the specific RAM slot that is not working.
    Clean with compressed air:
Use compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from the slot. Be careful not to damage any components with excessive pressure.
    Clean with a brush:
If needed, use a soft, non-conductive brush (like a fine paintbrush) to gently clean the slot's contacts.
    2. Reseating the RAM module:
    Locate the latches:
On the sides of the RAM slot, there are usually small latches that secure the RAM module.
    Open the latches:
Gently press the latches outwards to release the RAM module.
    Remove the module:
Carefully lift the RAM module out of the slot, avoiding touching the gold contacts.
    Reseat the module:
Align the notch on the RAM module with the corresponding notch in the slot and firmly press down on both ends until the latches click back into place.

Check the RAM UDIMM 288pin slot if its pins are not damaged and if all the 288 pins are properly soldered to the mainboard, as that could happen and they come lose for an 8 year old desktop. Also make sure that you have fitted the Acer recommended ram below and its not XMP type ram as only normal ram works with this desktop.

This is the memory that Acer tested this desktop with and recommends.
