Why does my Acer laptop use so much storage?

I have deleted everything from my laptop but it still says I have over 200 gigabytes taken up and only a few megabytes left. Should I buy a new hard drive and connect it to make more storage?

With only a few MB of free space—even after manually clearing files—it’s likely your 250GB drive is saturated with hidden system partitions, recovery files, and Windows 11 update overhead. If you're still using a mechanical HDD, it's not just a space issue: you're probably dealing with major performance bottlenecks too.

🔄 Recommended Action: Replace the drive entirely

    • A great upgrade would be the Samsung 870 Evo V-NAND 2TB SATA SSD. It fits most laptops with a 2.5" bay and offers:
      • ⚡ Faster boot and app load times
      • 🔋 Lower power draw, extending battery life
      • 🛡️ Better shock resistance than traditional HDDs

This upgrade gives you enough room for Windows 11 updates, apps, and files — and eliminates the sluggishness of a full mechanical drive. You can clone your existing disk or opt for a clean install. Let us know if you'd like help walking through it.

You must have a small capacity drive that the operating system is installed on and its running out of space, what is the exact model of your Acer laptop so that we know, as you need to increase the drive capacity.

The best thing to do is to buy a new bigger capacity drive and use a software like Macrium Reflect (or the new drives manufacturers suggested cloning software) to clone your old boot drive and data onto the newer and bigger capacity drive. This process is the easiest to upgrade and increase your drives capacity on your old laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
