Dear Acer Support,

I am experiencing an issue with my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 laptop.

Problem description:

  • The GPU fan (right side) does not spin at all, even under high GPU temperatures.
  • NitroSense does not detect the GPU or the GPU fan speed.
  • Windows Task Manager correctly detects the NVIDIA GPU, and it works normally.
  • GPU temperatures rise under load, but the fan never starts.
  • The GPU and CPU fan has been replaced with a brand-new units – CPU works, GPU not.
  • BIOS is up to date (v1.28), EC has been reset, Windows is clean, and all drivers are up to date.
  • HWInfo64 does not show GPU FAN RPM sensor.
  • NitroSense fails to detect GPU, even though the GPU operates normally in Windows.

The Nitro AN515-52 model Acer only lists the 1x fan for the model with the NVidia GTX1050 gpu and not for the 2x fans for the thermal module for the GTX1060 gpu, see all in the captions below. Go to Amazon as they have the cpu and gpu fans for the Nitro AN515-52 model for the NVidia GTX1060 gpu fans.

The reasons that your gpu is not showing in Nitro Sense app and the Task Manager is highly likely that the gpu is faulty and its shorted out, which can't be fixed and you have two choices, either only use the cpu Intel graphics for the AN515-52 laptop which is the 8th Gen cpu or replace the mainboard. I sugget that you take your laptop to an experience technician so that he can analyze the exact fault of the gpu and pinpoint the problem. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

If you need to replace the mainboard, these are the Nitro AN515-52 mainboards that Acer fitted to this gaming laptop.

Make sure that the GPU fan is plugged in correctly, or take the CPU side fan and install it into the GPU side. If the GPU side fan does not run, check the connector to see if the pins are still intact.

The reason that the GPU usage does not show up in Nitrosense is because it is idling. It will show the reason when you hover over the GPU usage bar. Running a game will make the GPU in Nitrosense show up, but don't do it since there is only one fan working
