I have Acer aspire 3, Model ID - A315-53-P4MY. Its having 500 GB HDD.

Can anyone let me how if this model supports SSD disk. if yes What capacities of SSD are supported ? Any recommendation for SSD ?

Can both HDD and SDD can work at same time ? Can OS on current HDD be copied on SSD.
How much max memory Laptop can be upgraded to. What are other ways to increase booting / laptop speed other than upgrading to SSD and increasing RAM.

[Edited the thread to add model name to the title]

Yes, you can have M.2 SSD and the HDD in your model, you have 1TB HDD at the moment, you can install a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD or a M.2 SATA SSD in the slot, migrate the HDD contents and use as the boot drive, you can use HDD for additional storage.

Max ram capacity for your A315-53 is 20GB and it has 4GB built into your mainboard and is non-removable, hence you can put 1x4GB, 1x 8GbB, 1x 16GB stick of DDR4 ram into its 1x slot for ram

Hi vaibhavpatel and others looking into SSD upgrades —

Diya1811’s guidance lays a solid foundation—here’s an alternative angle that could help users get more speed for your bucks without overspending:

💡 Budget SSD Strategy: Why PCIe Gen 5 May Be a Smarter Buy Than Gen 3

When considering SSDs for older laptops like the Aspire A315-53-P4MY, most folks instinctively reach for Gen 3 drives such as the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. But here’s a fresh take that might save you money and future-proof your setup:

🤔 Why Pay More for an Old Gen 3 SSD?

    • Popular Gen 3 drives are aging and often overpriced, especially top-tier models like 970 Evo Plus
    • Limited supply is driving prices higher, not performance value

🚀 Gen 5 SSD in Gen 3 Slot? It Works—at Gen 3 Speeds!

    • Many PCIe Gen 5 NVMe SSDs are backward-compatible with Gen 3 x4 slots
    • You’ll still get up to ~3.5GB/s read speeds, even in older laptops that lack Gen 5 lanes
    • These newer SSDs often use better NAND and controllers despite speed limitations

    🛠️ Real-World Example

Instead of spending 6,000+ PHP on a Gen 3 SSD, consider a budget-friendly Gen 5 SSD in the same price range:

    • You may get equal or better thermals, newer firmware, and wider resale value down the line
    • Just confirm it’s NVMe and M.2 2280, compatible with your laptop’s slot

    ✅ How It Benefits You

    • Save money 💸
    • Avoid buying legacy tech
    • Keep options open for transferring SSD to future systems

This may sound counterintuitive, but newer SSDs running at capped speeds in older machines can still offer better cost-to-performance ratio and smarter long-term value.

🔧 SSD Upgrade Guide for Acer Aspire A315-53-P4MY

If your laptop still runs off a slow 500GB mechanical hard drive, you’re missing out on massive performance gains. Here’s a smart path to upgrading—without falling into common traps.

    🧠 The Basics

    • ✅ The A315-53 supports M.2 NVMe SSDs up to 2TB in the dedicated M.2 slot.
    • ⚠️ We do not recommend M.2 SATA SSDs—although technically compatible, they’re much slower and barely beat a mechanical HDD in real-world use.
    • 🔄 You can keep the HDD and install an SSD for the OS, using the HDD as secondary storage. You can clone the HDD boot drive data to the SSD or use a Backup program and restore the backup to the new SSD.

    ⚡ Performance Upgrade Strategy

    🟡 Secondary Storage (Bulk Files)

    • Replace your slow mechanical HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD
      • Example: Samsung 870 Evo V-NAND with read speeds around 560 MB/s
      • Compared to the ~110 MB/s of typical 5400 RPM HDDs, that’s 5x faster
      • Game loading, file indexing, and media access all benefit noticeably

    💸 Why This Combo Works

    • 💰 Budget-friendly: Cheaper Gen 5 SSDs outperform old Gen 3 drives and offer resale value
    • 🔄 Dual drive setup: NVMe for speed, SATA SSD for capacity and silence
    • 📈 Real-world speed: OS boots in seconds, file access feels instant
