Why is my laptop not turning ON by the battery power? (Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-71)

What's happening is that whenever I try to turn on my laptop (Predator Helios Neo 16) using just the battery, it doesn't power on. I have to connect the charger to boot it up. Once it's turned on, I can use it without the charger, but it won’t start up on battery power alone.

What could be the problem?

This usually indicates a battery problem. Your battery may need to be replaced. Consider purchasing a new laptop battery compatible with your model. In the meantime, you can continue to use the laptop with the power adapter.

Also Perform a hard reset and check the battery status.
A hard reset can sometimes resolve power issues: Unplug the power cord and remove the battery (if possible). Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect the power cord (but not the battery) and try turning on the laptop using the battery power.

    Hi Himanshuuu,

Thanks for sharing the situation — it’s an interesting one!

From what you described, your laptop runs fine after booting, which points away from a bad battery and toward a power handshake issue during startup.

💡 Most likely culprit? The DC barrel charger not fully inserted. On the Predator Helios Neo 16 series, you need to push the plug in until you feel and hear a distinct click — anything short of that can cause inconsistent power detection during boot, even though the laptop charges normally afterward.

🔌 If you're using a USB-C dock or charger, try booting with just the barrel charger connected. Some docks delay power negotiation and confuse the startup logic.

🧠 Also, if you can confirm your exact model (PHN16-71, -72, or -73) by typing wmic csproduct get name into Command Prompt, it’ll help clarify which BIOS version applies. Later firmware updates improved startup behavior, especially when running Windows 11 24H2.

Let us know what you find — it sounds like a physical connection issue more than a hardware fault!

The predator Helios neo PHN16-71-xxxx gaming laptop should not be faulty and/or have a faulty and the battery not take a charge for such a new laptop, check the adapter first if its not faulty, check the laptops DC_IN port and make sure that it makes 100% contact with the DC_IN port and the barrel plug is fully insert into the port, as the laptop should operate and start from a cold boot on battery power perfectly. I know as I'm using the same laptop and my laptop hasn't missed a beat in 7 months that I've been using it.

But, if all the components above are functioning properly. then its an internal hardware issue, the main culprit in these cases is the EC chip or the BQ chip that regulate the power functions of the laptop and either chip could be shorted and need replacing. So if that is the case, then take your laptop to an experienced technician in you area that can can fix these high end gaming laptops, as only a tech like that can analyse this laptop and pinpoint the exact fault,

If your local tech can't fix this new laptop, then take/send the PHN16-71 to Acer Tech Support in your country, but be aware that Acer can and probably will replace the mainboard if too many issues are faulty and need replacing on the mobo, which the mobo for the PHN16-71 could be more than USD $2000+ to replace. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
