Hi everyone

I recently installed windows 8.1 on my acer aspire sw3 013 and i was having a lot of trouble with drivers. the drivers worked better than on windows 10 but one driver still didn't seem to work properly. The audio driver was really crunchy and the sound options said it was at 16 bit, 48000hz

if anybody knows a fix for crunchy sound then please reply

Thanks!

    Hi @skywal ,

It’s great that you’re experimenting with different OS setups to optimize performance—especially on older hardware like the Aspire SW3-013. While Windows 8.1 may provide slightly better baseline driver support compared to Windows 10, it’s important to note that neither platform will get security or driver updates moving forward.

For smoother audio performance and better overall stability, we recommend migrating to a machine that officially supports Windows 11. Modern systems offer improved driver architecture, higher bit-depth audio standards, and long-term support. If you're committed to keeping the SW3-013, you could try manually installing legacy Realtek or Intel SST audio drivers, but results may vary and might still not eliminate the crunchy sound.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed—we’re here to help!

The Aspire SW3-013 is a 10 year Acer product, and to get any new drivers for its Audio Codec: REALTEK/ALC5640-VB-CGT type, you need to go HERE to get the audio driver for the WS3-013, but first, I suggest that your go to Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek > and uninstall this driver and then reboot the tablet as this should refresh the driver and fix any driver errors and crunchy sound.

If this does not fix the issue, then completely uninstall the Realtek audio driver and then do a fresh clean install of the driver again, as this should fix the audio problems, if the audio is still crunchy, then its a hardware speaker problem, so change the speakers.

Acer does not list a part number for the Aspire SW3-013 speakers (but the caption below is what they look like) so search the web like eBay, Ali Express and see if you can find any replacement speakers for the SW3-013. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.
