Hi Rosethorn777, Your Acer XF243YM3 monitor doesn’t support brightness adjustments through Windows 11 like laptop screens do, so you won’t see a slider under Display settings.

To adjust brightness, you’ll need to use the monitor’s On-Screen Display (OSD) menu:

    • Look for physical buttons under the bezel or on the rear-right side of the monitor.
    • Press the main button to open the OSD menu.
    • Navigate to the Picture section where you’ll find the Brightness and Contrast controls.
    • Use the directional keys to adjust brightness manually.

Once you get the hang of the OSD, you’ll also find other useful settings like OverDrive and HDR tweaks.

Let us know if you need help locating the buttons or navigating the menu—it’s not always intuitive at first!

Windows 11 doesn’t show a brightness slider for external monitors like your Acer XF243YM3.

To change brightness, locate the physical buttons or joystick under the bezel or behind the monitor. These let you access the on-screen display (OSD).

Press the right button to open the OSD. Then navigate to the Picture or Brightness/Contrast section using directional controls.

Adjust the brightness level as needed, and exit the menu to apply the changes

To adjust the brightness on your Acer XF243YM3 monitor in Windows 11 when the brightness slider is missing from the display settings, you'll need to use the monitor's built-in On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. The monitor doesn't support brightness adjustment through Windows like some laptops do.

Here's how to adjust the brightness using the OSD:
    1. Locate the buttons:
Find the physical buttons on your monitor, usually on the bezel or the rear-right side.
    2. Open the OSD menu:
Press the main button to open the monitor's On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.
    3. Navigate to Picture settings:
Look for a "Picture" section within the OSD menu, where you'll find brightness and contrast controls.
    4. Adjust brightness:
Use the directional keys on the monitor to navigate and adjust the brightness level to your preference.

I finally found the answer about adjusting the brightness in a manual for my computer monitor screen on page 20 at

User manual Acer XF243YM3 (English - 31 pages) which shows exactly 5 buttons vertically on the back of my computer. The 2nd Function Key which is the 3rd button down from the top shows the symbol of a "shining sun" which is the brightness control. I want to thank you all for your input and the time you took to answer my question.
