Hi, I have a Nitro 5 AN515-44 and for a few months I've been having problems with the screen and sound freezing or a blue screen occurs when I'm using.

I've already changed the thermal paste, the bios is already in the most updated version (1.04), I've reinstalled drivers, install windows 10, 11 and linux.

When the problem started to occur I changed the RAM memories but the problem persists.

Hi nydrit, Thanks for the details — since the issue persists across Windows 10, 11, and Linux, and after RAM/thermal work, it’s starting to look like possible motherboard-level instability. A few things you can try and share to help narrow it down:

    1. Battery Report Run this in Command Prompt: powercfg /batteryreport Open the report with Edge, press Ctrl + P or right-click > Print to Microsoft PDF, then attach the PDF in your next reply. (Use @Puraw or Quote me so I’ll get an alert.)
    2. System Setup
      • Are you running a dual boot setup, or any virtual disk partitions from your Windows 11 install that might interact with Linux or vice versa?
      • Let us know if the freezes happen more often in one OS than the other.
    3. Additional Checks
      • Try booting with just one RAM stick (preferably slot A)
      • Does the freeze happen only on battery, or while charging too?

This will help confirm whether battery age, power delivery, or firmware behavior is playing a role.

1 - I'm sending the pdf with the battery report.

2 - No, I formatted and installed the other system (linux fedora, win 10 and 11).

3 - The laptop freeze with and without the battery. I tried to use just only one ram in both slots.

    Hi,

This unit is an older AN515-44 running a legacy BIOS, likely pre-v1.04. That firmware doesn’t fully register the battery in UEFI or ACPI, which explains the absence of drainage or charging history.

Battery telemetry is blank because the Smart chip was never properly initialized—either due to outdated EC firmware or skipping the full calibration cycle after installing the battery or resetting Windows.

    This creates a triple problem:

    • Bad battery with a likely locked BMS
    • Legacy BIOS failing to negotiate ACPI handshake
    • No full charge cycle routine to trigger calibration

    Best path forward:

    1. Update BIOS to latest version (v1.08 or newer).
    2. Install a fresh compatible battery.
    3. Complete one full charge–drain–recharge cycle to reinitialize battery telemetry.

That should restore proper EC handshake and allow the system to track battery metrics again.

In the support site the last BIOS version is 1.04. Where I can found the 1.08 version?

I formatted the laptop yesterday, this could be the cause of blank telemetry.
