I was installing scptoolkit driver for ps3 controller and it asked for a restart. After the restart i noticed Black screen with no predator logo or startup sound but only light bar lit up.

I did a forced shut down by holding power button and then turned it on back but still same status as black screen with only light bar led on and fans start for 2 seconds and stops. I did some research and tried few solutions below with no luck.

1. Tried external monitor and tv.

2. Tried holding power button long press.

3. Tried plugging in charger and turning it on but still same status.

4. Removed back cover and disconnected main battery. Long pressed power button for a 1 min to completely discharge. Connected battery again and pressed power button, again the same black screen, light bar led on and fan stopped spinning as soon as they start to spin.

I have not tried removing cmos battery jack and shorting the terminals on the main board. I have to reopen the bacm cover again to do that.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. The warranty has expired already.

Yes, short the RTC/BIOS battery +&- pins to reset CMOS at the mobo RTC/BIOS battery plug and also take all the ram out and leave the laptop to reset for about 30 min and then reconnect everything and try to reboot the laptop again, if you have 2x ram modules only use one, and see if its not from a faulty ram that the laptop hasn't got an image, then alternate between the two ram modules, as after doing all this, the laptop should reset and give an image post boot.

If not, then whatever the "installing scptoolkit driver" did could be an issue or the laptops eDP cable is shorted, or when you did the first reset, you have done something internally to the laptop like shorted, corrupted the EC or Chipset or bios or you have shorted a chip that is related to the dedicated gpu, but I hope that you haven't shorted the vram or the gpu, as in these gaming laptops, this is a common thing that happens, as then you will only be able to operate this laptop with the cpu graphics or you will need to replace the mainboard. Good luck.

    Check these parts and/or replace

Thank you for response Steven. I only took out battery jack and reset it as i have seen guides on this forum. I will try the cmos and ram thing and will update here. Thank you for your quick response.

A black screen with no Predator logo or startup sound on an Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71-74UU) after pressing the power button could indicate a few potential issues. Possible causes include a problem with the display itself, a faulty connection, or a deeper hardware issue affecting the boot process.
Here's a breakdown of possible causes and troubleshooting steps:

    1. Display Issues:
    Check the backlight:
If you see a very faint image or no image at all, the backlight might be the problem. Try shining a bright light at an angle to the screen to see if you can see a faint image.
    External monitor:
Connect an external monitor to see if the laptop's display is the issue or if the problem is further up the boot process.
    2. Connection Problems:
Reseat RAM: Try removing and reseating the RAM modules.
Check connections: Ensure all internal connections (e.g., display cable, power cables) are securely connected.
CMOS Battery: Consider resetting the CMOS battery.
    3. Boot Process Problems:
Hard Reset: Try a hard reset by holding the power button for 15 seconds.
BIOS/UEFI Issues: If the BIOS or UEFI firmware is corrupted, the laptop may fail to boot properly.
Component Failure: A failing CPU, GPU, or other critical component could also be the cause.

    4. Software/Driver Issues:
Driver Conflicts: In some cases, a driver conflict might prevent the display from working properly.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1. Check the obvious:
Ensure the laptop is properly plugged into a working power outlet and that the power adapter is functioning correctly.
    2. Perform a hard reset:
Hold down the power button for 15 seconds to force a shutdown, then try restarting.
    3. Check external monitor:
If you have an external monitor, connect it to see if the display is working.
    4. Boot into BIOS/UEFI:
Try to enter the BIOS/UEFI setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or Del) during startup.
