I have a Nitro AN517-54 and a while back I installed a 2tb SSD since the 500GB one was too small. I kept the 500GB one as my main drive. Many more resource intensive games run perfectly on my main drive but they break on my secondary drive. They do run perfectly for a bit on my secondary drive for the first few minutes but then after a little bit the symptoms start.

Symptoms are
Stuttering,
Freezes,
Ram seems to max out and gpu drops to 1-3%,
and then all I can do is restart my computer will be unusable until I restart it.

This has happened on black ops 6, once human and Helldivers 2.

I have tried many different graphic settings on these games and nothing fixes it, except transporting the game to my main drive.

Specs:
Laptop: Nitro AN517-54
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
CPU: Intel Core i5-11400H (2.70 GHz)
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 11
Secondary SSD: NVME Lexar SSD NM710 2TB

Hi, since the Nitro AN517-54’s second M.2 slot only supports PCIe Gen3 x4, any Gen4 NVMe SSD installed there — like the Lexar NM710 — will run at Gen3 speeds, effectively cutting its bandwidth potential in half compared to the Gen4 x4 primary slot.

The Nitro AN517-54 experiencing performance issues with games on the secondary SSD might be due to the secondary M.2 slot only supporting PCIe Gen3 x4, while the primary slot supports Gen4. This means an NVMe SSD in the secondary slot will run at Gen3 speeds, effectively halving its potential bandwidth.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:

    Gen3 vs. Gen4:
The primary M.2 slot on the Nitro AN517-54 likely supports PCIe Gen4 x4, offering significantly higher bandwidth than the Gen3 x4 supported by the secondary slot.
    Impact on Performance:
If you're using a Gen4 NVMe SSD in the secondary slot, it will be limited to the slower Gen3 speeds, which can lead to noticeable performance differences, especially in games that heavily rely on fast storage access.
    Potential Solutions:
Check SSD Specifications: Ensure the secondary SSD is compatible with the Gen3 interface if it's going to be used in that slot.
Reinstall Games: Try reinstalling the games on the primary SSD to confirm if the performance difference is solely due to the drive speed.

BIOS Settings: Review your BIOS settings for any options related to SATA mode or storage configuration. Incorrect settings might affect drive performance.
Driver Updates: Ensure your graphics drivers are up-to-date, as older drivers can sometimes cause performance issues.
Acer Nitro Sense: If Nitro Sense is causing issues, reinstalling the latest version might help, according to Acer Community.
Check for Background Processes: Excessive background processes can also impact game performance. Close any unnecessary applications while gaming
Consider a Gen3 SSD: If you don't need the absolute fastest speeds, consider using a Gen3 SSD in the secondary slot instead of a Gen4, as it will match the interface speed.
Contact Acer Support: If the issue persists, contacting Acer support or consulting with a technician might be necessary.
