hi

i have a Acer Predator Helios Neo(PHN-16-72) its working fine but there're some poblem such as high tpmreture of cpu on heavy gpu duty and gaming, also some times it get very hot near 100 when its sleep and do nothing. More over window stucking by using ctrl+tab to siwtich window
i read on web that high tempreture issue is related to bios update (for 14 serie intel cpu)

so i decided to update my bios, i wonder which bios verison is stable and safe to update and how to update it (i mean only download the last version of bios-update and update it i.e via usb?)

my current bios version is V1.05, 1/4/2024

and there is another question what happen if laptop battary is full but when the charger is pluged in for bios update the house power go off would bios update continue on laptop battary or it would crash?

regards

The temperature problems are not related to the BIOS, and none of the updates available for your computer fix that problem:

On the other hand, I find it strange that you have a version V1.05, does this mean that the BIOS of that computer has never been updated, has the computer been in use in the last few months?

Temperature problems are usually related to the processor's thermal paste, which can be solved with a new thermal paste, but this should be verified by a technical service.

Regarding the battery and a possible power outage during a BIOS update, the computer must be connected to power and it is not related to the battery level since if the level is low, the update will not be possible and even if the battery level is at 100%, if a power outage occurs, the BIOS can be corrupted.

this laptop used liquid metal instead of termal paste, does metal liquid degrade? (based on interent it dosent degrade)

and since this laptop didnt recived any bios update how should i uodate it? install last one or update one by one?

Just to assist you further and to answer your questions above, but make sure that all the Win-11 24H2 version updates are done and you have your windows OS up to OS build: 26100.4484 version updated, as that is the last OS built.

    Here are the answers:

Q1. this laptop used liquid metal instead of termal paste, does metal liquid  (based on interent it dosent degrade)

A1. The liquid metal paste is the best paste for your PHN16-72 high end cpu especially that this 14th Gen cpu's has the known Intel initial voltage and overheating design problem cpu design, what I suggest and if you use your laptop for editing or allot of gaming, you need to change the cpu liquid metal paste every 4-6 months, if you only use the laptop for normal tasks and rarely use it for gaming and editing tasks, change the liquid metal paste every 12 months, as thi is essential for good thermal temps and functionality of your PHN16-72 model.

Q2. and since this laptop didnt recived any bios update how should i update it? install last one or update one by one?

A2. The bios in your Predator Helios Neo PHN16-72 model laptop is an accumulative type bios, that means that the last version 1.17 has included all the other bios versions and their fixes. To update the bios you need to do the following:

    • First make sure that all software's that are open like Office docs, PDF or similar are closed
    • make sure that the PHN16-72 is plugged into its adapter and the mains power
    • Download the PHN16-72 bios version 1.17 into the Download folder
    • Then open the bios folder and click on the JH63T117.exe to start the bios update process
    • Then DO NOT disturb this bios update with clicking the touchpad or pressing any buttons
    • Be PATIENT and allow the bios to finish (takes about3-5minutes) and until the laptop reboots to the Win-11 log in screen, as then that signifies that its a proper bios flash

Do all the above as it will make your laptop thermals run cooler and the bios will be update to its last bios version 1.17 and will also include the version 1.14 cpu microcode fixes to the 14th Gen cpu of "Update MCU to 0x129 for 2024.4 IPU security update" which fixes the Intel voltage and overheating vulnerability that the Intel 13th and 14th Gen cpu's are known for. Good luck and hope all this helps you out further.
