Hi! Good news—your Pentium B960 (SR07V) is socketed, not soldered. It uses the Socket G2 (rPGA988B), so you can upgrade it as long as you choose a compatible CPU and stay within the system’s power and chipset limits.

    Compatible upgrades include:

    • Core i3-2xxxM or i5-2xxxM (great budget-friendly options)
    • Core i7-2xxxM (like the i7-2620M) or even up to i7-3632QM, depending on your cooling and chipset
    • Stay within the 35W TDP range to avoid thermal issues

    ⚠️ Before upgrading:

    • Check your motherboard chipset (likely HM70, HM75, or HM77)—HM70 might reject newer CPUs like the 3rd Gen i7 after 30 minutes
    • Update to the latest BIOS version if available on Acer’s or Packard Bell’s site
    • Use a quality thermal paste and clean the heatsink during installation

You’ll see a noticeable bump in performance with a Core i5 or i7. Just remember that BIOS support and thermal design can be limiting factors for quad-core chips.

Be aware that Acer community has no access to Packard Bell service guides (it use to but not anymore) even though Packard Bell is a part of Acer.

I suggest that you go to the CPU-Upgrade site for the Pentium B960 cpu, as they have a list of all the Socket G2 cpu's that the B960 belongs to.

Compatibility depends on which cpu's Packard Bell fitted to the EasyNote LV ENLV44HC laptops, as your Pentium B960 has a TPD 35W so don't try and upgrade your laptop to a cpu that has Turbo mode or anything higher than 2-3 cpu spec above oem specs the list above, so I suggest that your upgrade should be at max Core i3-2308M, DO NOT upgrade to the min spec Core i7-2620M cpu as it will not work!

As going to a higher cpu spec, you will find that the bios will restrict the higher cpu spec functionality and your laptop will not boot. Good luck and hope this helps you out further, as I've been doing these upgrades of these old laptops for many years
