VH240YU Monitors no longer accept DisplayPort Input, both suddenly stopped working

I have the following setup:

Monitors VH240YU x2 owned for many years.

Connected to a Dell dock WD19S

1 monitor through HDMI - Monitor A. 1 monitor through DisplayPort - Monitor B.

The dock is connected to my laptop (OMEN)

I have used this setup for many years, and it has worked fine.

Both monitors and the laptop screen would work simultaneously.

The other day, the DisplayPort connected monitor (Monitor B) stopped working.

I switched monitor B to use HDMI and monitor A to use DisplayPort. Monitor A stopped working, and monitor B started working.

Based on the situation above, both monitors are not taking DisplayPort.

I tried 4 different DisplayPort cables, none worked.

I thought it could be the dock, but plugging the display port into a different monitor I have (Alienware) and it worked.

I have updated all drivers on my laptop and the dock. I have reset the monitors to factory settings and attempted to download Acer monitor firmware, but this is only dated to 2019 and doesn't even seem to work.

What do I do????

Hi @Antony210 , thanks for the detailed breakdown. Since your laptop is an HP OMEN, it might be worth checking in with the HP support community too. Some OMEN models require both their own power adapter and full power to the dock for proper DisplayPort output—especially when driving multiple external monitors.

The VH240YU monitors don’t draw power from DisplayPort itself, so make sure both are plugged into their own power sources. DisplayPort cables only transmit signal, not enough power to operate the monitors.

You’ve already ruled out cable and dock issues by testing with the Alienware monitor—so it’s likely that these displays just aren’t getting enough power to complete the DP handshake. If available, you might want to connect one directly to the laptop’s DP output (not through the dock) while powered externally, just to confirm.

Let us know what you find!

If two Acer VG240YU monitors connected via DisplayPort are not working, try troubleshooting the cables, ports, and monitor settings. First, check the DisplayPort cables for damage and ensure they are securely plugged into both the monitor and the computer. Verify that the correct input source is selected on the monitors and that the computer recognizes them. If the issue persists, try updating graphics card drivers, checking for cold solder joint issues (which can be resolved by warming up the monitor), and potentially resetting the monitor by unplugging all cables, holding the power button for 60 seconds, and then reconnecting everything.

    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1. Check Cables and Ports:
Inspect the DisplayPort cables for any visible damage, kinks, or loose connections. Replace the cable if necessary.
Ensure the cables are securely plugged into both the monitor and the computer's DisplayPort ports.
Try different DisplayPort ports on both the monitor and the computer if available.
    2. Verify Input Source:
Use the monitor's built-in menu to confirm that the correct input source (DisplayPort) is selected.
    3. Check Computer Recognition:
Go to your computer's display settings and check if both monitors are detected.
If not detected, try updating or reinstalling the graphics card drivers.
    4. Consider a Power Reset:
Turn off the computer and monitors.
Unplug all cables from the monitors and the computer.
Hold the power button on each monitor for 60 seconds.
Reconnect all cables and power on the system.

    5. Cold Solder Joint Issue:
Some VA panel monitors may have a cold solder joint issue, where connections become unstable when cold, and the monitor may not display properly when first turned on.
Wait a few minutes for the monitor to warm up and see if the issue resolves itself.
    6. Driver Updates:
Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date.
You can use tools like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the old drivers before reinstalling them
