    Hi, try these items:

Troubleshooting Summary for AN515-58 Black Screen & Sudden Shutdown

    • Model Reference: Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58, launched in early 2022.
    • Issue Reported: Power and charging LEDs active, but screen remains black even after RAM reseating attempts.
    • Suspected Triggers:
      • Sudden Shutdown during low-load activity (e.g. YouTube browsing) may indicate a dGPU driver crash or EC-triggered thermal shutdown.
      • 💥 Overheating, even from light tasks, could occur from dust buildup or aggressive CPU/GPU boosts.
    • Reset & Basic Checks:
      • 🔄 Held power button for 15 seconds — no effect.
      • 🧩 Reseated RAM modules — no change.
      • 🔌 Charger tested; plug integrity confirmed (recommended: 135W–180W barrel).
    • Display-Specific Tests:
      • 🖱️ Tried F7 toggle (or Fn+F7) to re-enable internal screen if it was accidentally disabled.
      • 💡 Flashlight test to check for ghosted image — may suggest backlight or inverter failure.
      • 🖥️ Connected external HDMI monitor to verify dGPU output and rule out panel damage.
    • Recovery Attempts:
      • 💽 Booted via USB recovery disk; used F12 for boot menu.
      • ⚙️ Attempted BIOS access using F2 key.
    • Next-Level Checks:
      • 🌬️ Opened chassis to inspect cooling and fan condition.
      • 🧊 Considered thermal paste reapplication due to age.
      • 🔄 Briefly disconnected internal battery and CMOS battery to force BIOS reset. (see below)

Power drain + CMOS reset: Open the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard. Locate the CMOS module (with 2 twisted wires Red and Black under the battery) and remove the coin battery. Shorten the +/- terminals inside the CMOS capsule for 2 seconds with a bended paperclip and put the coin battery back with the + sign facing up, close the CMOS capsule. Next, press the Power Button on the keyboard for 10-15 seconds after that reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard. Close the laptop, plug-in the adapter and try to boot.

Its either an internal main power rail issue that has shorted or the laptops EC, Chipset, bios have frozen and need resetting or the EC chip is faulty and needs replacing and reprogramming. Do a hard reset first and reset CMOS by shorting the bios batteries +&- mainboard plug pins, if that doesn't work, then its an internal issue that needs a technician to analyse and pinpoint the exact problem and fixing. Good luck

A black screen does not always mean your device is broken. It can be a symptom of various temporary issues, such as software crashes, driver malfunctions, or incorrect display settings that might be resolved with troubleshooting steps like restarting the device, checking cable connections, or updating drivers. Here's how to hard restart, aka force restart, your Acer laptop: Press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds until the laptop shuts off. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible). Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the battery and power adapter.
