Acer Aspire 5 A515-56G performance drop when battery hits charge limit (Optimized charge Issue)

I am writing to report an issue (maybe) with my Acer Aspire 5 laptop. I use the battery charge limit feature, set to 80%.

How the system used to work:
Previously, when the charge level reached 80%, the charging indicator would turn off, and the laptop would run directly from the AC adapter. Under heavy load (e.g., gaming), the battery might slowly discharge to 79-75%, which I understand is normal behavior, and performance remained stable.

How the system works now:

Recently, the behavior has changed. Now, when I start a game with the battery at 80%, it performs normally at first. However, after about 10-20 minutes of sustained load, the charging indicator, which was previously off, suddenly turns on. It is at this exact moment that a significant performance drop becomes noticeable, making games and demanding applications run very poorly.

Could you please advise on what might be causing this sudden change and what steps I can take to restore the correct power management behavior?

Hi, consensus in this community is that the battery charge limit feature, set to 80% will do nothing for your battery lifespan (a myth) and only hinders Windows power management. Acer removed this feature from later versions. Disable battery Optimizer and that 80% charge limiting and check in Windows Services that these Acer services (acc.Svc) are no longer running (disable the Startup type and Apply). Also Fast Startup should be disabled in Edit Power Plan as this option interferes with Wake from suspended mode and with Window Modern Standby protocol. Keep the power adapter plugged in 24/7 and your battery fully loaded to 100% at all times. Update BIOS with version 1.36 dated 2024/04/18 and Acer Care Center with version 4.00.3058 dated 2025/04/29.
