[BIOS v1.26 BUG] GPU Fan Randomly Spins Loud on Acer Nitro ANV15-51 — Even When Idle

Hello Acer Team and Community,

I'm facing a persistent issue after updating my Acer Nitro ANV15-51 to BIOS version v1.26 (dated March 21, 2025).

While the update was installed months ago, the issue only began recently (late June). My GPU fan now randomly spins at full speed even when the laptop is idle or using integrated graphics. It starts slowly and then ramps up for no clear reason.

Steps I have already tried:

✔ EC reset

✔ Windows full reset

✔ iGPU mode

✔ Predator Sense reinstall

✔ BIOS reflash (same version)

✔ Clean NVIDIA driver install

Still, the fan speed remains uncontrollable. In Predator Sense, it shows “Auto” mode, but doesn’t behave normally. No Whisper Mode options are available either.

Other users are now reporting similar issues, and even Acer service center staff acknowledged it might be a firmware/EC issue. But BIOS downgrade is not allowed.

It seems this issue is triggered by a combination of:

- BIOS v1.26

- Recent Windows/NVIDIA updates

- EC receiving improper fan signal

🛠️ Please escalate this to the firmware or BIOS engineering team.

The last ANV15-51 laptops 1.26 bios was a specific EC chip programming update which could be freezing and causing the fan issues, I suggest that you do a Hard Reset to see if that fixes the EC chip issue. I don’t know what reset you did but with a hard reset you first need to shut down the laptop then press the power key for 15 seconds to release all power from the laptop, then take the back cover off and take the main battery out. Afterwards, take all the ram modules out and then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and short its mobo plug +&- pins with a metal object to reset CMOS.

Leave the laptop like that for 1 to 2 hours so that the laptops EC, Chipset and bios chips reset, then put all components back and restart the laptop and see if the EC chip has properly reset and the fans and Nitro Sense problems have been fixed. Try that and let us know, otherwise the EC chip or bios needs to be reprogrammed, by a technician that has these special EC and bios chips programming tools, that can reset these chips to their earlier program versions than what the bios version 1.26 program has done to the EC chip. Good luck and hope all this helps you out further. to fix this problem.
