Hi, my CD Drive suddenly stopped being recognised on my Acer F5-571-320G.

I initially found advice to delete it from the Device manger and reboot the computer and it would fix the issue. I tried this and it worked. However after one use the driver stopped being recognised again, so i repeated the delete in device Manager and re booted. However this time the drive was still not recognised and looking in Device Manger the CD Drive no longer appears, even after opening hidden devices.

I've looked in BIOS and the drive still shows.

I've tried looking for a driver on the Acer page; however frustratingly neither of my S/N or SNID are recognised. Even when copying and pasting them from the laptop.

Any ideas how i can fix these issues.

I suggest that you follow the steps below and see if that helps to recognize the DVD RW drive in your laptop.

Note: this is a site where you can download all the drivers require and are available for your Acer Aspire F5-571, so have a look here, as Acer has stopped support for your Aspire F5-571 laptop.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Use the Hardware & Devices Troubleshooter - Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down & Click Hardware & Devices > Click Run the Troubleshooter & follow on-screen directions > Restart the computer after troubleshooting is completed
    2. Uninstall & reinstall driver - Windows Key+X (Or right click on Start) > Click Device Manager > View tab > Show Hidden Devices > Expand DVD/CD Drives > Right click on entry below > Uninstall Device > Reboot your computer
    3. Review following Microsoft Help - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/314060...

If all the above doesn't work then you need to replace the DVD RW drive with one of the Acer fitted drives below, as the DVD RW drive is faulty or the drives pins are not making full contact with the SATA plug of the mainboard due to corrosion or dirt on its pins, so take the drive out and clean its pins and the mainboard pins with isopoll alcohol and see if the DVD RW drive works and is recognized. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
