Acer Aspire 7560 Can I upgrade my wifi card?

I have an Acer Aspire 7560 (old, I know.) It's actually my grandma's, as she refuses to get a new computer. However, the atheros wifi card is now faulty. I got her an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 because it has bluetooth and would be a good upgrade for her, but when it's plugged in, the computer doesn't boot. The power button is lit up, but the screen does not display and I can't even go to bios. I'm pretty sure it's a bios whitelist issue. I'm not the best with computers, but is there any way to fix this?

Hi, The Aspire 7560 uses a half-size mini PCIe slot for Wi-Fi cards. Physically, you can replace the original Atheros card (like the AR5B97) with another mini PCIe card that supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, such as: Broadcom BCM94352HMB or AzureWave AW-CE123H. These are known to work well in older laptops and support 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0. Unfortunately, Acer didn’t provide whitelist-free BIOS updates for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 model, so unless you’re into risky BIOS modding, the safest bet is to go with a Broadcom-based mini PCIe card listed above.

Your 17.3" LED Aspire 7560 laptop uses a miniPCI type WLAN only or a Wi-Fi/BT card with the below specs:

    • WLAN - Atheros HB95/HB97/ HB97, BCM943225 - Protocol: 802.11 b+g, Drat-N and a Data throughput: 11~54 Mbps, up to 270 Mbps for Draft-N
    • Bluetooth - Broadcom BCM2070 / Atheros BU12 - Features Mini USB module with built-in antenna - Bluetooth 3.0

Upgrade information for the Aspire 7560 laptop to a WLAN/BT card:

To upgrade the oem Aspire 7560 WLAN only card of the Acer Foxconn or the Liteon cards models which your laptop has, as the Aspire 7560 supports Bluetooth, and Acer only fitted a none Bluetooth card because of marketing and cost factor in those days. Btw, I had an Aspire 5750-2414 that I bought new in those days, that also had only a WLAN card, and I upgraded it to a WLAN/BT card and it worked 100%, so I know from personal experience that adding a Bluetooth card will work on your Aspire 7560 laptop.

I would suggest that you upgrade to a miniPCI card like the QCA6174A Mini PCIe that is a Highspeed Transmission Support IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. As long as you have the same interface card like the miniPCIe with one to two upgraded transmission speed and BT versions specs the card should work 100%, do not try and fit a miniPCIe card from the modern protocols like Wi-Fi 6 or 6E or 7 or BT 5.3 as they will not work. Good luck and hope this helps you out
