Can you be more specific with this question, as the PH16-72 laptop Acer support page doesn't have the bios version 1.17 file to download, the last PH16-72 laptops bios is version 1.10 and it does not have version 1.17. As my advice is to NOT install anything that windows update has as it could brick your laptop, this is just how I do thing especially with firmware and bios updated from Microsoft, as I only use the Acer files.

But if this firmware version 1.17 is from and within Windows Update > Optional Updates > Drivers? Then its up to you if you want to install.

I suggest that you do the following before and when this new 1.17 firmware updates:

    1. Make sure that your laptop is plugged into the adapter and the mains power
    2. Turn off all anti-virus and malware programs and all software's that you have opened before doing this update,
    3. When the bios updates to the bios 1.17, DO NOT touch or reboot the laptop mid way be patient and wait until this bios updates completely
    4. Wait until the laptop reboots and you arrive at the sign in screen, as that is a sign that the bios update has finished.
    5. As disturbing a bios update will brick your laptop.

Good luck and hope this helps you out.

the laptop is a predator neo phn16-72 the firmware is from the official acer site download page. i have already updated the firmware i dont need guidance or criticism for going ahead and installing an acer endorsed firmware. im just trying to work out what effect this has. in the original post i did not state it was a neo.

    Welcome @Rammstein,

I believe that these special keys are managed by Acer QuickPanel or PredatorSense software.

thanks egomes, i cant see any options in acer quick panel or predator sense thanks for the suggestion. i guess perhaps i need to wait for the updates to come with windows. i am envisioning that if i press the copilot key once then it launches copilot and if i keep the key pressed down it could act like a second control key but it does not work this way.
