High System Temperatures while Ethernet Driver is Enabled (Predator PT315-53)

Hi everyone! I've been trying for quite some time to figure out what to do in order to fix this problem.
At first, I didn't know why I was getting frame drops (when I go from 100 fps to around 5-10) when I was in a game. This thing would happen after a few minutes or even one hour or two. I solved the issue by buying a better cooler for my laptop but there were still moments when I was facing the same issue.
In time, I figured out that both my CPU and my GPU were relatively fine so I was searching for some answers in the Acer community about the system temps and I found the same problem for users. Before this, I tried reinstalling my driver but nothing has changed. Though I managed to keep this problem under control by always disabling the Ethernet driver (I have to do this everytime I boot up my PC, otherwise I will get the same temps), I have to use the internet cable when traveling or when I download large files.

This is a picture taken when I was using multiple browser tabs and pretty much doing light work. If I start a game, then that value jumps to 95-96.

I'm also about to change my thermal paste soon in a few weeks because it's about time. Any advice for the system temperature? It's been really frustrating for me. Thanks a lot!

This is a common problem on gaming laptops like your Predator Triton PT315-53 model, that is if you don't have all the latest Win-11 24H2 updated to its last OS build: 26100.4351 or the NVidia game ready drivers, update the bios to the last PT315-53 version 1.14 and all appropriate firmware that windows might have for the gpu ONLY, do NOT update bios from windows update as it could brick your laptop. It has nothing to do with the WLAN or LAN drivers as it all has to do with the temp control of your hardware.

In regards to the thermal paste, if you haven’t changed the paste on the cpu/gpu and vram, then and as your PT315-53 is a 2021 released model laptop, and the laptop is going on 4 years old, allot of the oem Acer fitted paste could be dried out and inefficient and it urgently needs a repaste of these components. You should also look at the battery condition, as that could also be a problem as it could be deteriorated and could have a bearing on gaming for lack of backup power and fps drops, if the adapter can’t supply adequate power during gaming, then the gpu will have fps drops and overstressing of the cpu and gpu, so look at these issues also.

Be aware that on these gaming laptops, the thermal paste has to be changed at least every 12 months for normal use and for a gamer or hard core gamer, it needs to be changed every 6 months or less, for the cpu and gpu to perform at its max efficiency and not overheat and cause fps drops. Also I would use liquid metal paste on the cpu and if you wish on the gpu also, as liquid metal is the best heat dispersion paste for gaming laptops or desktops as all hard core games use this paste.

The best high end paste that you should use is the Thermal Grizzly products on your 11th Gen cpu and the whatever RTX gpu that you have, btw this is what I use on my Nitro AN515-56 11th Gen i7-11370H cpu and its RTX3050 gpu and both have liquid metal paste which works unbelievably well for gaming and fps efficiency and low temps on this gaming laptop.

Here are the Thermal Grizzly paste that I used, the normal gpu paste is included only if you don’t want to paste the gpu with liquid metal:

    1. Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal for the CPU or GPU if you want to paste both
    2. Kryonaut Extreme for the GPU
    3. TG Putty for the VRAM chips

This is an Acer guide of how they recommend the cpu to be pasted with liquid metal or you can follow the Thermal Grizzly Liquid metal PDF guide also:

    Hi,

You may also need to update the network controller (LAN) driver to solve this high CPU usage issue.
