Hello.

My OEM battery health was at 82% with a cycle count of 362. On a 100% charge, I'd get about 4 ½ hours if using it as I normally do. The battery is four years old, I figured it was time for a change.

Remove old battery, blow out the dust in the fan, brush everything and install the new battery. No issues. New battery was at 28%, charged it to 100% and unplugged it. Ran a discharge test, passed. Restarted the laptop.

However, when the battery was at 100%, it said my battery level was 2 hours remaining. It has since been revising up and down. It was at a high of nine hours, then revises to six hours or four on and on. My guess is that I will have to do a hard reset on the device and it will fix the issue. First, I am going to drain the battery completely and recharge it.

Anyone have any ideas? I did my homework and got, presumably, a good battery (it was identical to the Acer, though not OEM).

Just try a simple step of uninstalling the battery driver and restart the laptop

I was not aware that Chromebooks had drivers. I mean, I am assuming there are drivers in the Linux terminal through which the OS runs, but there are noot drivers in the Windows or Mac sense.

Can you link me to this procedure (Google is coming up empty) or walk me through?

Battery recalibration issues like fluctuating estimates are common after a replacement, and it's important to monitor performance over a few charge cycles to ensure system accuracy. For students or staff checking system readiness or support availability, always confirm operational updates through official platforms.

Battery level variations up and down in an Acer Chromebook can be caused by several factors, including the Chromebook's battery health, Adaptive charging, and the type of applications being used. To address the issue, you can check the battery health, enable or disable Adaptive charging, and optimize power consumption by adjusting screen brightness and closing unnecessary applications.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    Battery Health:
The battery's health can degrade over time, leading to inaccurate percentage readings and inconsistent battery life.
You can check the battery health in the Chromebook's diagnostics.
If the battery is severely degraded, it may need replacement.

    Adaptive Charging:
Adaptive charging can extend the life of your battery by delaying charging to full.
It can be enabled or disabled in the Chromebook's settings.
If you're experiencing inconsistent battery levels, you might want to try disabling Adaptive charging.

    Power Consumption:
Certain applications, such as Zoom, can drain the battery faster.
Adjusting screen brightness can also significantly impact battery life.
Closing unnecessary applications can help conserve battery.

    Other Potential Issues:
    Overdischarged battery:
If the battery is left depleted for an extended period, it can become overdischarged, leading to inaccurate percentage readings.

    Software updates:
Ensure your Chromebook is up to date with the latest Chrome OS updates, as they can include battery optimizations.

    Steps to Troubleshoot:
Check Battery Health: Access the Chromebook's diagnostics to assess the battery's health.
Adjust Adaptive Charging: Go to settings and toggle Adaptive charging on or off.

Optimize Power Consumption: Lower screen brightness, close unnecessary applications, and consider using standby mode when not in use.

Ensure Software Updates: Check for and install any available Chrome OS updates.
Reset Charge Level Counter: If the battery percentage is inaccurate, you can try resetting the charge level counter by shutting down the Chromebook, fully charging it, and then using it until it shuts down due to a low battery.
