Hello,

good morning, everyone.

I'm reaching out because the keyboard on my laptop isn't working. The backlight and power button are functioning properly, but the keyboard itself doesn't respond, not even in the BIOS.

Using the touchpad, I was able to restore the system to factory settings, but the issue persists. I also booted from a USB drive with Ubuntu, and the keyboard still doesn’t work there either.

Could this be a BIOS issue? Is there a way to update it?

I bought the laptop in Spain, but I currently live in Argentina.
The model is Acer Aspire A16-71M-58ZM.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Make sure that you have the last bios vision 1.04 as that also has a culminative fix from bios 1.03 for a "Fix touch panel no function after entering S0i3".

Do that first and see if it fixes this as you don't need the keyboard or keys to update the bios, but make sure that when you activated the Insyde bios software update within Win-11, you are patient and wait until the bios updates finishes and you DO NOT reboot the laptop or do anything to disturb the bios update process, let the software update the bios until it finishes and it reboots and brings you to the Win-11 sign in screen.

Otherwise and if that doesn't work, then send your Aspire A16-71M to Acer Tech Support in your country to change and/or fix this keyboard issue as it should not be happening to a new laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hi, Reinstall Keyboard Drivers – Go to Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right-click Standard PS/2 Keyboard, and select Uninstall. Restart your laptop to let Windows reinstall the driver.

If the Acer Aspire A16-71M-58ZM laptop keyboard isn't working, try a few simple troubleshooting steps. First, ensure the keyboard is properly connected and try restarting the laptop or performing a hard reset. If the issue persists, check for updates to the Insyde BIOS software.

You can also try disabling Filter Keys in Windows settings or uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard driver. If the problem continues, consider contacting Acer Support for potential keyboard replacement.

    Detailed Troubleshooting Steps:-
    1. Restart:
A simple restart can often resolve minor glitches that might be causing keyboard issues.
    2. Hard Reset:
Unplug the laptop, detach the battery (if removable), and wait a few seconds before plugging it back in and powering on.
    3. Check for BIOS Updates:
Ensure you have the latest Insyde BIOS version (1.04).
    4. Disable Filter Keys:
In Windows, go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and disable Filter Keys.
    5. Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Driver:
Open Device Manager, expand "Keyboards", and uninstall the keyboard driver. Then, restart your computer and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
    6. Check for Conflicting Software:
Uninstall or disable Acer Care and AcerSense software, as they can sometimes interfere with keyboard functionality.
    7. Contact Acer Support:
If none of the above steps work, contact Acer Support for further assistance, including potential keyboard replacement.
