"Keyboard error" message on boot on Veriton N4710GT

When powering on my newly purchased Veriton N4710GT the keyboard's LEDs (Num-/Caps-/Scroll-Lock) briefly flash multiple times. The BIOS then reports a keyboard error. Consequently, when the login screen appears I'm unable to enter my credentials. If I then unplug and re-plug the keyboard, it starts working and I can log into my system. In other words I'm forced to unplug and re-plug my keyboard, every time I start the system.

The keyboard works perfectly fine on all other machines I own.

I updated the BIOS to Version R02-A3 but the problem persists.

The BIOS option "Wake up on USB KB" seems to have an effect on the issue. When disabled, the keyboard successfully gets initialized in roughly every second boot attempt.

I request a fix for this issue.

Thank you.

This could be a USB port problem where the keyboard is pugged into, plug the keyboard into another USB port and see if the keyboard boots and works post boot, if not then send your Veriton N4710GT back to either the retailer that you bought the desktop from or Acer Tech Support in your country and get them to fix this keyboard issue or change the desktop for a new one. As this fault should not be happening with a new Acer product as it must be faulty. Good luck.

Insert the keyboard into the front or back USB ports of your desktop as shown below.

A "keyboard error" message on boot of a Veriton N4710GT can indicate a problem with the keyboard itself, the USB ports, or the BIOS/UEFI settings. The message might appear momentarily before the system continues to load normally. Here's how to troubleshoot:

    1. Test with a different keyboard:
Try a different keyboard (wired or wireless) to see if the error persists. If the error goes away with a different keyboard, the original keyboard might be faulty.
    2. Check USB ports and cables:
Ensure the keyboard is properly connected to the computer and that the USB port is functioning. Try different USB ports on the Veriton N4710GT, especially if the front ports are being used.
If using a wireless keyboard, ensure the receiver is plugged into a USB port and that the batteries are charged.
    3. Check BIOS/UEFI settings:
      Enter BIOS/UEFI:
When the Veriton N4710GT starts, press the designated key (usually DEL, F2, or F12) to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
      Check USB settings:
Look for a "USB" or "Storage" section in the BIOS and make sure USB devices are enabled for boot.
      Reset BIOS to defaults:
If necessary, you can reset the BIOS to its default settings to see if that resolves the issue.
      Check boot order:
Ensure the Veriton N4710GT is booting from the correct drive.
    4. Check Windows Device Manager:
Access Device Manager: Open Device Manager (search for it in Windows).
Check for errors: Look for any error messages or exclamation marks next to the keyboard or USB controllers.
Update drivers: You might need to update the drivers for the keyboard or USB controllers.
    5. Other potential solutions:
Run Windows Update: Ensure Windows is up to date, as updates can sometimes fix compatibility issues.
Check for hardware conflicts: If other devices are causing conflicts, try removing them.
Repair hard-drive errors: If the hard drive is corrupted, it could cause boot issues.
Do a clean restart into Windows: A clean restart can help identify issues caused by third-party software.
Consider a system restore or reinstall: If the issue persists, you might need to restore the Veriton N4710GT to a previous point or reinstall Windows.
    6. If the problem is persistent:
Consult Acer support: If you've tried all the troubleshooting steps and the keyboard error persists, consider contacting Acer support for further assistance.
