my laptop orignally came with 8gb soldered ram and an extra slot of ram. As i play a bit of games like forza or cities skylines, 8gb is very low for them. i want to upgrade it. thinking of the " Crucial RAM 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz CL22 Laptop Memory CT16G4SFRA32A ".

I have many questions-

  1. will this fit and work?
  2. will the laptop recognise the 16gb and work together with the old 8gb and make total 24gb?
  3. will dual channel mode work or single channel only?
  4. will the 3200Mhz speed work or at a reduced rate?
  5. when should i buy so that i can get the ram for the best price?
  6. if this will not work, then which one should i go with. i prefer 16gb upgrade.

Hi, yes the Crucial 16GB RAM module will work in mixed mode, the one removable SODIMM slot takes either 8GB or 16GB DDR4-3200Mhz standard JEDEC modules. as you have 8GB soldered RAM I recommend getting an identical 8GB SODIMM module (run this WMIC command to find the part number to order: wmic memorychip list full) as that will run in Dual Channel mode at 3200Mhz with 16GB and is plenty of memory for any application. If you install 16 GB RAM the first 8GB of the removable 16GB module will pair with the 8GB soldered RAM and run in dual-channel mode. The remaining 8GB of the removable 16GB module will run alone in single-channel mode. The overall memory speed will adjust to 2667MHz, as that's the standard downclocking rule for mixed RAM configurations in this laptop.
