713 Chromebook with red hue and lines on screen

Our 713 was purchased in 2021 I think. It's in a repair shop so I can't get the exact model.

When first switched on, it now has what looks like a couple of lines of dead pixels at the top of the screen though they're not continuous lines. After a little while it develops what you can see in the attached photo. The pattern does change over time but it's essentially the same.

What might be the cause/remedy? The repair shop thinks it'll be the panel and reckons it'll cost £190 to repair. Is it worth it? Thanks

Ultimately, the decision is yours. This is a panel failure. You need to get a new panel. However, try different methods to be sure; connection socket, cable problems, graphics adapter software, etc.

    Please check Acer Store.

The biggest reason why the problems are not solvedis if someone who says there is a problem with the GPU says; If I change the case, will the problem be solved? That's the whole point! The concepts are different! We should not go off topic.

If it's the panel your repair shop is likely about right for the cost. If it's the cable going to the panel then it would be less expensive. If it's the motherboard then the cost will be high again. That big of an issue is more often the panel than the cable, but remember the cable gets flexed each time you open, close or even adjust the panel position, so it could have formed cracks in the wires, which can induce similar noise patterns.

Thanks both. I think it's more likely to be the panel, which the shop also believes, because the problem doesn't start off like the photo but develops and changes over time. I'll try it out with an external monitor so that we at least have a way of using it until we decide to replace it.

A red hue or lines on a Chromebook screen can indicate a hardware issue, likely with the display or a connected cable. Initial troubleshooting steps include checking for loose cables, performing a hardware reset, and adjusting display settings. If the issue persists, it may indicate a more significant problem requiring professional repair or replacement.
    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Hardware Reset:
Try a hardware reset by holding down the power button until the screen goes black and then powering the Chromebook back on, according to Google Help.
    2. Display Settings:
Check your display settings to ensure there are no color profiles or settings causing the issue.
    3. Check for Loose Cables:
If you are comfortable opening your Chromebook, visually inspect the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard for any damage or looseness.
    4. Update Chrome OS:
Make sure your Chromebook's operating system is up-to-date, as updates can sometimes resolve display issues.
    5. Factory Reset:
If the issue persists, you can try a factory reset, but be aware this will erase all data on your Chromebook.
    6. Professional Repair:
If the problem is still not resolved, consider taking your Chromebook to a qualified repair shop or contacting the manufacturer for potential warranty or repair options.
      Possible Causes:
      Loose Cable:
A loose or damaged ribbon cable connecting the screen to the motherboard can cause display artifacts.
      Faulty Display:
The screen itself may have a physical fault or internal damage, leading to a red tint or lines.
      Software Issue:
While less common, a corrupted software or driver issue could also contribute to display problems.
      System Board Issue:
In some cases, a faulty system board can cause display problems, as many Chromebook components are built onto the board.
