The error code 0x800f081f typically indicates that Windows Update or a similar process is failing to install or repair a component due to a missing or corrupted system file, or an issue with the source of the update. This can happen during Windows updates, .NET Framework installations, or other system repairs.
Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:
    Causes:
    Missing or Corrupted System Files:
The error can arise if critical files needed for the update or repair are missing or damaged.
    Issues with Windows Update Components:
Problems with the Windows Update service or its underlying components can lead to this error.
    Incomplete or Incorrect Source:
If the update or repair process is using an incorrect or incomplete source file, the error might occur.
    Corrupted Component Store:
The Component Store, where Windows stores its update components, can become corrupted, causing installation problems.
    .NET Framework Issues:
In some cases, the error can be associated with problems installing or repairing specific components of the .NET Framework.
    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Run System File Checker (SFC):
Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will scan for and attempt to repair corrupted system files.
    2. Use DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management):
Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
      Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
    3. Check Windows Update Troubleshooter:
Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
Select "Windows Update" and run the troubleshooter.
    4. Reset Windows Update Components:
Stop the Windows Update service (search for "services" in the taskbar, open it with admin rights, and stop the Windows Update service).
Delete the contents of the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
      Restart the Windows Update service.
    5. Use a Different Update Source (if applicable):
If you're using a specific source file (e.g., a Windows ISO), ensure it's valid and matches your Windows version.
Try using Windows Update as the source by running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /LimitAccess.
    6. Check for Disk Errors:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
Type chkdsk /f /r C: (replace C: with your drive letter) and press Enter.
    7. Clean Boot Windows:
This involves starting Windows with minimal drivers and services to identify if a third-party application is causing the issue.
    8. Repair Windows Installation:
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, consider using an installation media to repair your Windows installation.

You can manually download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog. Search for KB5055627, download the correct version for your system, and install it manually

And preview updates aren't required, you can simply wait for them to release the actual update and install that instead.
