The issue may be caused by a driver mismatch where Adrenalin installs a generic or incorrect driver, or due to INF file confusion causing Windows to apply a Vega 11 driver. Old registry entries from previous drivers can also lead to misidentifying Vega 8 as Vega 11 in Task Manager.

Clean Install the Driver. Uninstall current AMD drivers completely. Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode to remove all AMD graphics drivers. Download the correct driver:
Go to Acer’s support site and enter your model AN515-42. Nitro AN515-42 Downloads

Or get the correct Adrenalin version (older, stable one) from AMD’s official site specifically for Ryzen 5 2500U / Vega 8. Install only the recommended version. Avoid optional/beta drivers like 25.5.1 unless explicitly supported. Adrenalin 23.2.2 WHQL Driver

Another option, you can force Correct Driver via Device Manager
Open Device Manager → Display adapters. Right-click the GPU listed probably says Vega 11, choose Update driver. Select Browse my computer → then Let me pick from a list. Choose the correct AMD Radeon Vega 8 from the list. Reboot.

The Vega 8 and Vega 11 are from the same architecture (Raven Ridge), which is why misidentification can happen—they share similar device IDs. If performance is normal, it may just be a cosmetic naming issue, but a clean install is still the best way to ensure stability.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Ignore it and use your laptop normally. AMD ended regular support for Vega, RX 400, and RX 500 series GPUs last year, along with some other models. They now only release occasional drivers for critical fixes, not for new features or performance improvements. So, they likely won’t address or care minor issues for these older GPUs related to name.

The name issue you’re seeing is probably just a driver-level quirk, not a hardware problem. If you want to double-check, you can use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode, reinstall a previous driver version, and see if the issue persists.

i recommend to use this latest driver with name of vega 11. Also I recommend to clean reinstall this version using DDU in safe mode since you directly updated from amd software.

A faulty or old AMD driver on your PC could be a possible cause for the Radeon software not working. You can fix that by installing the latest AMD driver for your PC's graphics card. Check out our guide to updating graphics drivers on Windows for further details about how to apply this potential fix
