Hi everyone,

I'm using an Acer ALG (AL15G-52) laptop with an Intel Core i5-12450H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 (4GB) dedicated graphics. However, when I launch games like F1 22, only the integrated Intel UHD Graphics (GPU 1) is being used. The dedicated RTX 2050 (GPU 0) remains idle even during heavy gameplay.

Here's what I’ve already tried:

  • Set the preferred GPU to High-performance NVIDIA processor in the NVIDIA Control Panel (both globally and per game).
  • Updated all drivers via NVIDIA GeForce Experience and Acer’s support site.
  • Checked Device Manager – both GPUs appear with no errors.
  • Set the .exe to use the RTX GPU via Windows Graphics Settings.
  • Restarted after every change, but still no effect.

I also checked Task Manager → Performance tab → and confirmed that only the Intel GPU is being used during games.

Is there something I’m missing?
Does this model need a specific BIOS setting or firmware update to enable proper GPU switching?

Any help would be appreciated — thanks in advance!

Hi, open NVIDIA Control Panel – Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel. Go to Manage 3D Settings – In the left-hand menu, click Manage 3D settings. Select Program Settings Tab – Here, you can assign specific applications to use the dGPU. Choose Your Program – Click Add and browse for the .exe file of the game or application you want to prioritize. Set Preferred GPU – Under Select the preferred graphics processor, choose High-performance NVIDIA processor.

    Thank you for your response.

After extensive troubleshooting, I’ve realized that the issue seems to be with the specific game version I tested — F1 22, which I downloaded as a repack (DODI). It appears this version does not properly utilize the dedicated GPU (RTX 2050), likely due to how the game files were modified.

To verify, I tested other applications:

    • A game [Hill climbing] from the Microsoft Store used the RTX 2050 without any issue
    • Bluestacks emulator also correctly used the dedicated GPU

So, it looks like the RTX 2050 is functioning well, and the issue is isolated to that one game version. I appreciate your support and just wanted to update you in case anyone else faces a similar situation.

    Thanks again for your assistance!
