New RAM with more MHz

Hello,

I want to upgrade my RAM from 4 GB up to 8 or 16 GB. I Got the Acer Aspire v3-771G-73634G75Maii -> Mainboard: Acer VA70_HC. Now, my question is: Can I also upgrade the MHz? I want 1600 MHz instead of 1333 MHz. Do you think its good if it works, or do you think I should install 1333 MHz?

Welcome aboard, Redhead. That's a poweful rig you've got there, and your Core i7 CPU could probably handle it. But let me explain one of technology's deep, dark secrets.

Except for a few high-end games, your computer does not need more than two gigs of RAM for any one program. Now, because you have a variety of programs running in the background, you are using more than 2 gigs a lot of the time. But if you simply add more RAM, you won't hurt your machine, you will be able to do more (especially if you're playing high-end games),and your laptop can handle it.

If you start using a different type of RAM, you will receive little or no benefit, and you might foul-up a really nice laptop.

  • More RAM can only be a benefit - assuming it is supported.

Only use RAM rated for your machine.

Are you able to select 1600MHz? Even if it would work, if your system max is clocked at 1333MHz then that's the speed that 1600MHz RAM would run. In short, you would not benefit.

Well, thanks for the answer. I searched for RAM´s on Kingston site and found this http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search?DeviceType=3&Mfr=ACE&Line=Aspire&Model=77335 . This RAM is spezially made for my system, so I can run it without problems Smiley Happy And yes, this is a powerfull Notebook, made for gaming Smiley Happy cost only 800 €, so not much and quite better than some normal PC´s Smiley Happy
