Seems to be a known problem with multiple Amazon reviews of others who have had the screen hinge break after light use. Avoid purchasing this model. Any way I can get a refund?

The Swift 3 model SF314-42-R9YN laptop that you are refereeing to in that link, is a 2020 Acer released model and it should not have these hinge problems, but and and due to this laptop being 5 years old these hinge problems could happen on certain laptops, but and due to this laptop being out of the Acer 12 months warranty, and if you have a hinge problem, then its your responsibility to fix a broken hinge and replace it, as its not a big job and anyone can do this, just change the lower case and all its components into the lower case or upper LCD case to fix this hinge problem whichever was broken. Good luck and hope this helps you out to solve the problem, as replacing these parts is the best fix for a broken hinge, do not try to glue the hinge as it will not work.

These are the parts that you may need to fix that may be broken and where the hinge problem is fixed to.

Yes, the hinge itself isn't likely to be broken. What has happened is that the hinge has [pulled away from the screw mounts in the case. Without doing a full case replacement, some users have been able to use an epoxy (metal type) to rebuild the screw mounts so you can reseat the screws. This is not a problem specific to Acer computers, it's inherent in the thin and light designed laptops from all manufacturers when they use plastic cases. I've done the epoxy hack on HPs, Dells and Acers…
