The Canon PIXMA MP495 is not officially compatible with Windows 11. Canon has not released updated drivers for this model to support Windows 11. However, some users have reported limited success in getting the printer to function by using Windows 10 drivers or by manually adding the printer through the operating system's settings.

The scanner component of the PIXMA MP495 is more problematic. Even if the printer works, the scanner may not function correctly on Windows 11 due to the lack of compatible drivers. Users have reported that the scanner does not work after upgrading to Windows 11, and there are no official drivers available to resolve this issue.

    Potential Workarounds
Attempt to install the Windows 10 drivers on your Windows 11 system. This may enable basic printing functionality.
Manually Add Printer: If the printer is not automatically detected, you can try adding it manually through the "Printers & Scanners" settings by selecting "Add a printer or scanner" and following the on-screen instructions.

Given the lack of official support and potential functionality issues, it may be advisable to consider upgrading to a newer printer model that is officially supported on Windows 11. This would ensure full compatibility and access to the latest features and drivers.

Start by checking Canon's official support page to see if any drivers for Windows 11 are available. If that doesn’t work, you can try downloading Windows 10 drivers from Canon’s website, then install them in Compatibility Mode by right-clicking the installer, selecting Properties > Compatibility, and choosing Windows 10 before running the installation and they may offer generic printer drivers that enable basic printing functions. Another option is to manually add the printer by navigating to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, selecting Add a printer, and choosing Add manually using an IP address or hostname.

I will try your advice on the first few items but have already tried the last one of adding a new printer, this does not work. I have tried this a few times. It sees the printer but because this acer has no disc drive to input cannon's disc I am dead in the water.

The absence of a disc drive in modern laptops, including your Acer, is due to advancements in technology and changing user needs. Most laptops no longer feature built-in CD/DVD drives.
There are alternative ways to install software or drivers without a disc drive:

Visit Canon's support page, locate your device model, and download the necessary files directly to your laptop.
If you have access to an external USB disc drive, you can connect it to your laptop and use the disc as intended.
If you have another computer with a disc drive, copy the disc's contents to a USB drive or upload them to a cloud storage service. You can then transfer them to your Acer laptop.
