Hi I am suddenly seeing a black line/Shadow line about a half inch wide going almost all the way across the bottom of the screen. It is not on the far right side as it seems to fade out at the end. It is a 1080p 49 inch gaming monitor Nitro EI491CR.

Usually that's a problem with the cable, some noise is interfering with the signal. Try a different cable and different routing.

Thanks for your reply, but it is there with a DP cable from my PC and also with a HDMI cable from a separate laptop. The monitor is less than 2 years old. Could it still be something to do with cables?

A black line at the bottom of an Acer Nitro EI491CR monitor is likely caused by a misconfiguration of the display's resolution or a loose connection between the monitor and the computer. It could also be a hardware issue with the monitor itself.
Here's a breakdown of possible causes and solutions:-

    1. Resolution Issues:
Mismatch between native resolution and output:
Your computer might be outputting a resolution that doesn't match the monitor's native resolution, causing a black border.
Solution: Check your computer's display settings and make sure the resolution is set to the monitor's native resolution (e.g., 3840x1200 for the EI491CR).
Troubleshooting: If the resolution settings are correct, try different refresh rates (e.g., 60Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz) in the display settings to see if one resolves the issue.
    2. Loose Cable Connection:
      Unstable or damaged cable:
The connection between your computer and the monitor might be loose or damaged, causing signal loss and black lines.
Solution: Double-check the cable connection on both the monitor and computer ends, ensuring it's firmly seated. Try a different cable or port if possible.
    3. Hardware Issue (Less Likely):
      Internal damage:
There could be a problem with the monitor's internal components, such as the backlight or the panel itself.
Solution: If you've ruled out the resolution and cable issues, the problem may be with the monitor's hardware. In this case, contacting Acer support or a qualified technician might be necessary.
Troubleshooting Steps: Verify Resolution: Ensure your computer's display settings are set to the EI491CR's native resolution (3840x1200).
    4. Check Connections: Double-check that the cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer.
    5. Try a Different Cable: If available, test with a different cable to rule out cable issues.
    6. Test on a Different Input: If you have multiple inputs, try connecting your computer to a different port on the monitor.
    7. Contact Acer Support: If the problem persists after trying these steps, reach out to Acer support for assistance.

The black shadow line on your monitor is likely due to a hardware issue, such as a failing display panel or internal components. You can safely reset the monitor to factory settings using the on-screen display (OSD) menu and inspect for physical damage. Lowering the refresh rate might help, but if the issue persists, contacting Acer support is recommended

It's not likely to be a cable issue if you have tested with two different cables. It could potentially be a power supply problem or a main board issue. Which EI491CR model is it? There should be more letters and numbers after the "R" on the back sticker. Are you still in warranty? If so now is the time to contact Acer support.
