fully up to date acer aspire 314 only charging when laptop is off.

windows 11
i have done all the battery resets. even disconnected the battery several times even though it has the reset switch.

The charging on the laptop started playing up and being strange a while back, hard to put into words.

Everything was telling me, its the battery or charger, so got new ones, same problem. when i turn on the laptop, i get a motherboard bleep and the charging stops, the i get the splash screen for acer.

i tried to update the bios, but as you have to have the power connected it wont run, and they have change the program so you cant edit it to force it to run.

my partner has the same laptop, i put my old battery in hers and it worked and charged fine, also tried my charger and it worked fine.

This is clearly a huge problem when you start looking for help online.

so. how are you supposed to upgrade the bios to fix the power issue when you cant as you need the power plugged in, which it is, but its not being picked up unless you turn off the laptop?

Use the full battery of your partner's laptop or charge your battery in your partner's laptop and replace the full battery in your laptop and update BIOS with the power adapter connected. Are you using a power adapter or USB-C charger, what is the full model number like A314-36p? Are you using Windows11 23H2 or 24H2?

unfortunately, it doesn't matter what battery i use its still the same outcome. i tried what you suggested with the new battery and my partners. am using the original power adaptors for the device, not usb C. i did try using that socket, but was the same thing.

    model A314-23p

    windows 11 13H2

the issue is, the power adaptor only works when the laptop is shut down. considering the motherboard bleep i get when i turn it on, tells me its a bios thing, or a windows update thats screwed the ac port some how. on microsoft help forums, people are saying, rolling back to windows 10 made there laptop work fine, but as soon as they get a force update, the issue presents itself again, microsoft are refusing to say its the update, when it clearly is.

    little update.
so.. If i plug in a HDMI for a second screen, and have the screen powered on before booting up the laptop. It seems to make the charging work sometimes. If i can get the laptop into windows before the ac socket turns off, it will stay on and charge.
