Can you cross check to see if the touchpad is turned off by any chance? Normally you should be able to enable it either from BIOS or via Function keys.

I toggled it on and off in the settings. Still no joy. I feel like a wire may have come loose somewhere but I’m not sure where to look

The Nitro N22C2 is the Nitro AN517-55 model and that is what you should refer to your Nitro laptop as, because the model: N22C2 is not used to ID your laptop.

There is NO screen fan if you mean the cpu or gpu fan then the below list is the Acer part numbers that you need to replace either the cpu/gpu fans or the FFC touchpad cable or the touchpad. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

With the touchpad, check the connecting cable FFC CABLE FOR TOUCHPAD is pugged in 100% and its pins are making full contact,

Or its the touchpad that is faulty

This is where the touchpad is when you open the laptops back cover and remove the main battery, where the FFC cable should be plugged into, are shown below in the red cycle that you should check.
