I noticed a black bar/line at the top edge of my screen. When I put my cursor there, a part of the cursor is not visible because of it. Before, it was a thin black line. Now it's thicker. I wonder what was the cause. I would like to know your thoughts and help me fix this or avoid the spread.

We need to determine whether it is a hardware or software issue, so first check if this line appear while in the Bios screen? Turn off the computer. Tap f2 while turning on the computer. It will go to bios. Please stay on the bios screen for 30 mins.

If the line not in BIOS screen, it could indicate a display resolution or driver issue. Try adjusting your screen resolution and refresh rate, updating your graphics drivers, or using the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Win+B to reset the graphics adapter.

If the line is there also in the BIOS then we know it's a hardware issue.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

It might be an LCD issue. It will help us a lot if you can take a picture if that black line and post on here.

@AnhEZ28 I couldn't take a good picture because the black line is at the top edge of the screen and it blends like a border. But it is unusually thicker than before.

You can use a phone to take it. But I suspect it is a LCD issue.

If your Acer Swift 3 SF314-41 laptop has a black line on the screen, try adjusting the screen resolution and refresh rate, updating your graphics drivers, or performing a hard reset of the laptop.

Begin by checking for software-related issues by booting into the BIOS (press F2 during startup). If the bar is visible in the BIOS, it indicates a hardware issue; otherwise, the problem might stem from display drivers or settings. Update your graphics driver through Device Manager or reinstall it by downloading the latest version from Acer’s support page. You can also connect your laptop to an external monitor to determine if the issue is specific to the laptop screen or a broader system problem. Additionally, the black bar may be caused by a loose or damaged display cable

A black line on the screen, even in the BIOS, suggests a potential hardware issue, possibly a display panel problem. Damaged or faulty internal cables connecting the display panel to the rest of the laptop could also be the cause. Connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if the black line appears there as well. If it doesn't, the issue might be with the laptop's internal display panel. it's best to consult a technician or consider a warranty claim if applicable.

Here's few recommended LCD panel with part number for your laptop. You may google the part number to check the availability in your region.
