I'm having an issue with USB unknown device even when no USB devices are connected.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the unknown device plus all other USB devices.

I've run SFC

I've run hardware trouble shooter

Turned off fast start

Disabled USB power off charging

Disabled USB suspends

Run chkdsk /f /r

Set bios settings to default

Issue persists.

I tried to update bios using OEM bios flash utility, but it says the rom already has the latest update so won't reinstall.

Can I use the previous OEM bios version flash utility to downgrade the bios then the latest utility to upgrade to see if it's a bios issue???

Oddly all USB ports are functioning normally.

Downgrading can be risky, and once the BIOS is upgraded, it's generally permanent. If the downgrade process goes wrong, you might risk bricking your device making it unusable.

An "Unknown USB Device" appearing even with no USB devices connected usually indicates a driver issue, a corrupted system file, or a problem with the USB controller itself. Make sure there's no physical obstruction or damage to your USB ports.

You can try a factory reset of your Windows PC, go to Settings > System > Recovery, then click "Reset PC" and follow the prompts, choosing whether to keep your files or remove everything.

If you've tried all the troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, it might be a hardware problem that requires professional assistance.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

No physical obstructions or damage ports are operating ok.

If it's driver or corrupted file wouldn't SFC repair it . SFC said no integrity issues.

Will try reset and report back

Try these below steps if you have not alrDisable USB Selective Suspend:
Open Device Manager: As described above. Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers":
Right-click on USB Root Hub (or similar) and select "Properties".
Go to the "Power Management" tab.
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and click OK.

Check for windows Updates: Click the Start button and then click "Settings". Select "Update & Security" and then "Windows Update". Click "Check for updates" and install any available updates.

Also, try reinstalling the motherboard chipset drivers 10.1.17541.8066 : Download

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Power management disabled for USB root controller

    Chipset driver 10.1.17541.8066 installed

    No updates available

    USB unknown device warning persists.

I'm thinking it's mother board issue. During a shutdown prior to the fault I heard a short beep from speakers like a bios beep then when I rebooted I got the blue screen say there was a hardware issue. it then shut down automatically. when I rebooted I checked the device manager and the unknown USB was displayed.

I'm not going to reinstall bios for fear of bricking.

Other than the unknown USB device warning the machine is operating normally.

perhaps I should just leave the device disabled and live with it since it's having no affect on operations.

Check the USB-C port to see if they are working fine.

Turn off the laptop, unplug the charger, and hold the power button for 15 seconds to reset the BIOS. This may fix the unknown USB issue.

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

You can't downgrade a bios in an Acer laptop with the bios .exe file within windows to a lower bios version for the PH517-51 laptop. You need a USB CH341A BIOS EEPROM Programmer tool to reprogram the chip completely that needs expertise and knowledge of how to flash and downgrade a bios version program. Do not attempt to do this downgrade if you have no knowledge of a bios reprogramming as you will brick the bios chip and your laptop will not operate and/or boot.

Note: and some further advice, you can also go to Discord @ Electronic Computer School to get appropriate bios files for Acer laptops and resolve allot of bios issues from the Discord members. Good luck and hope this helps you resolve the proper bios issues that you have

Bios reset did not Work. Frustrating :(

    No way I'm resetting windows.

Take a month of Sunday's to reinstall everything and I probably can't use my backup because it's probably corrupted assuming the issue is software and not hardware related.

In any case the machine is working fine which is even more frustrating

At least if something wasn't working I'd know what to look for.
