Issue with video/audio lag when using Samsung earbuds on Chromebook

Just in the past few days I've had an issue with video and audio lagging (approximately 5 second lag per minute) when using my Samsung Earbuds. I've used them for the past 10 months that I've owned this chromebook without issues.

Please check if the videos and audio  play at normal speed when playing
through  the speakers on the  Chromebook.

If it plays fine through speakers, but play at a slower speed when connected to bluetooth, then your bluetooth device may have latency which leads the audio/video not being in sync.

You can try these troubleshooting steps.
Start by restarting both your Chromebook and your Samsung Earbuds. This can often resolve temporary glitches.
Ensure your Chromebook and the Samsung Earbuds are running the latest software versions. Check for updates in your Chromebook's settings and through the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app if you have one.

Ensure your Chromebook and earbuds are within a reasonable distance and that there aren't any objects, metals, walls, or people between them. Avoid using your earbuds near devices that may cause interference, such as other Bluetooth devices, microwaves, and wireless routers. Try resetting the Bluetooth connection on your Chromebook. You might need to remove the earbuds from the connected devices list and re-pair them.

Disable any audio enhancements or effects in your Chromebook's audio settings, as these can sometimes cause issues. Clear the cache of your Chromebook's Bluetooth settings. This can help resolve temporary issues.

Look first at what's changed in those last few days. My guess is either the OS has done and update or one of your apps has. Try rolling that back to see if it clears the issue up.

I have the exact same problem, which occured at the exact same time - since a week ago Thursday (March 27).

All audio and video lagsa round 10-15% behind real time. This applies to MP4 files rec'd in email, Spotify, YouTube, NetFLix and live streamed sports.

The issue fixes itself if I don't use bluetooth. With no Bluetooth speaker attached, files and live streams play normally. If I go to my Bluetooth settings, disconnect my speaker, "forget" the speaker, turn Bluetooth off, and reboot my machine the problem will correct itself for anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple hours, then it returns.

My software is completely up to date. I use a SPin 713. I have powerwashed the unit and the problem persists.

I have had the exact same problem since the exact date. There is something wrong with my Chromebook's Bluetooth.

More explanation: Spin 713. Has worked well for almost two years. Circa March 27, all audio and video started lagging and playing at around 85-90% speed. MP4 files, Spotify, NetFlix, YouTube, live streaming sports - all are slow.

Turning Bluetooth off solves the problem. Using a speaker with Bluetooth starts the lag again. It is not the speaker I have used with no problems for two years as I bought a brand new speaker and the problem persists.

Rebooting doesn't help. Neither does powerwashing.

What was in that last Chrome update the last week of March?

If you're experiencing video/audio lag with your Samsung earbuds on a Chromebook, try strengthening the Bluetooth connection by moving the devices closer, removing obstructions, and ensuring there's no interference from other devices.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of troubleshooting steps:

    1. Optimize Bluetooth Connection:
      Distance and Obstructions:
Ensure your Chromebook and earbuds are within a reasonable distance (around 10 feet) and that there are no objects, walls, or people between them.
      Interference:
Avoid using your earbuds near devices that may cause interference, such as other Bluetooth devices, microwaves, and wireless routers.
      Bluetooth Reset:
Try resetting the Bluetooth connection on your Chromebook by removing or unpairing the earbuds, restarting both devices, and then reconnecting.
      Clear Bluetooth Cache:
Clearing the Bluetooth cache on your Chromebook might resolve temporary glitches.
      Restart Devices:
A simple restart of both your Chromebook and the earbuds can sometimes resolve minor connection issues.
    2. Check Earbud Settings and Firmware:
      Earbud Settings:
Make sure the earbuds are set to the correct audio mode or codec (if available), as some modes may be optimized for lower latency.
      Firmware Update:
Ensure your earbuds' firmware is up to date, as updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes. You can usually update the firmware using the Samsung Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone or computer.
    3. Chromebook Settings:
      Audio Settings:
Check your Chromebook's audio settings to ensure the correct output device is selected and that there are no unusual delays or latency settings.
      Power Saving Mode:
Some Chromebooks have power-saving modes that can affect Bluetooth performance. Try disabling or adjusting these settings.
    4. Other Considerations:
      Hardware Limitations:
In rare cases, the Chromebook's hardware might not be powerful enough to handle the demands of streaming video and audio simultaneously, leading to lag.
      App Issues:
Certain apps or websites might have compatibility issues with Bluetooth audio, causing lag. Try using different apps or websites to see if the issue persists.
      Background Processes:
Ensure there are no resource-intensive background processes running on your Chromebook that could be affecting performance.

Spin 713 doesn't really tell us which model you are working with. They have made Spin 713 models for several years now, and each year they are different, sometimes different even during the same year. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like CP713-xxx-xxxx. As I said before the issue is very likely something Google has done with an OS update, but it could also be an issue with an app that you are all running…
