Upgrading storage and RAM for my Acer Nitro AN515-58, what type of RAM& SSD need, 1TB/2TB?

Hello everyone!

This question as probably been asked a ton. However, being the opposite of tech savvy I am not completely sure what to buy.

I am looking to upgrade the RAM and storage of my Acer Nitro AN515-58. It is the model with 3070ti and an intel 12700h. Now I found in another thread that it depends on the motherboard model what type of RAM I needs.

I am also not sure what type of SSD I need an whether I can put in a second one next to the one already in there or that I need to swap them out. I am planning on buying a beafy one with at least 1TB or even 2TB

Someone that is able to share the specific brand/model of SSD and RAM that would work?

You need to check the memory modules shipped with your laptop DDR4 or DDR5. Your model comes with two types of motherboards, you have a DDR4 RAM compatible motherboard in your laptop, so you have to stick with DDR4 3200MHz SODIMM modules because DDR4 RAM sticks have 260Pins and DDR5 RAM sticks have 262Pins, so the DDR5 RAM will not physically fit in to a slot meant for DDR4.

The laptop supports two M.2 slots are designed for 2280 M.2 SSDs. You can install it in the second slot without swap the other ssd.. Exceeding storage capacity is not a problem, as long as the drives are properly installed and recognized by the system. The system will recognize and utilize the full capacity.

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 supports M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs for primary storage and potentially a 2.5" SATA SSD for secondary storage. For Primary Storage (M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD), the laptop has a dedicated M.2 slot for a PCIe NVMe SSD, supporting Gen4 x4. You can upgrade to a larger capacity NVMe SSD to increase storage.

Here's few recommended 500 GB and 1TB ssd.

The Nitro AN515-58 came in two different ram models with either DDR4 or DDR5 type ram fitted by Acer, check which model you have and which ram is fitted by Acer to your laptop, for this install CPUz software and see the Memory and SPD section of CPUz. Below is all the memory specs of your laptop specified by Acer. This Crucial ram guide for the AN515-58 is for the DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 type ram fitted to this laptop also as this morel laptop also can operate with a max total of 64GB max ram at 2x 32GB DDR4 or DDR5 type ram.

Note: Ram is usually dependent on the cpu and the Intel 12th Gen cpu's fitted to the Nitro AN515-58 has the following ram specs:

The M.2 SSD slot specs of this laptop is for SSD1 is a Gen 4X4 lane type drive and for SSD2 slot is a Gen 4 x4 lane type drives, see this benchmark done for 1TB, 2TB and 4TB M.2 SSDs for best performing drives and chose which one you want to fit into your laptop. I prefer the Samsung 990 Pro NVMe drive as this drive is very well supported and Samsung is a top performing drive, but its up to you. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thank you for answering! One more question. So there will fit in a second M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD of 1TB or would i need to swap out de one that is in there already? IF two fit does the total volume of the 1TB with the original 500gb sdd together exceeding 1TB total be a problem then? As you mention acer recommends up to 1TB

This laptops 2x SSD M.2 Gen 4 x4 lane slots support up to a total of 8 petabytes capacity (1 petabyte = 1000TB) so you will never ever exceed the max capacity. That is the windows OS max theoretical capacity in the GUID (GPT) format.

If you want a bigger capacity boot drive, I suggest that you change the boot drive to a 1TB or 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD drive (as they are the fastest Gen4 x4 lane drives) and clone the old 500GB boot drive onto this new drive, then with the old drive that has the Win-11 OS format partitions you following the formatting guide below, as that is the only way to get rid of all the windows partitions from the old drive so that you can use it as a slave drive in SSD2 of the AN515-58 laptop.

To completely format an M.2 SSD with a windows OS and its partitions in SSD2 do this:

Type in cmd in the search bar to get command prompt up, then "Run as administrator".
Then at System32 > diskpart and press enter.
Type list disk and press enter. This will show the list of drives currently attached to PC, make note of the drive number of the drive you want to wipe.
If Disk 1 is the drive you want to clear, type select Disk 1 and press enter. A message will confirm it is selected
Warning: afterwards diskpart will Erase/Clean/Delete permanently all data on the selected drive. Please be certain that you are erasing the correct disk. Once you are sure its right disk, type > Clean and press Enter

Note: The Command Prompt window will display the message "diskpart succeeded in cleaning the disk". when the disk is completely formatted, then you will be able to see this M.2 SSD in Windows Explorer as disk "D".
