Acer Aspire V3 772G wifi issues

Hi,

Just recently, I spent $1000 on the model listed above. It has an intel core i7 processor with an nvidia GTX 760M 2GB video memory graphics card. It runs games (offline) like a beauty.

Problem is the wifi driver. I have Atheros Arb5b2b222 network adapter and have the latest update (10.0.0.255). I experience no lag whatsoever in general browsing however when it comes to online gaming (the reason I bought this specific model) the lag is absolutely horrdendous. It seems the connection gets dropped every 5 or so seconds. I can't really explain this since my internet speed is at 6MPS and my connection shows 5 bars. It has nothing to do with the modem or the router since all my other wireless devices, including my PS3, work fine.

I disabled the power management option to turn off the adapter to save power and have updated the latest BIOS to no avail.

This is really unacceptable for a laptop of this caliber. I expect prompt replys regarding a solution.

Gaspiden, I'm sorry that you're having this problem. I was able to find five reviews of four versions of the Vs 772G, and they pretty well agreed that it is a great gaming machine, although it cannot handle the highest level of graphics on the highest level games.  Despite its powerful graphics card, feeding that 17.3" screen takes a lot of muscle. The standard model (which costs about what you spent) has 12 gigs of RAM. The problem here is that much of that RAM does nothing, even in a high-end game.

Only one of the reviews mentioned the wireless capability, and that was a pretty short statement: " With integrated Acer Nplify 802.11a/g/n WiFi, the Acer Aspire V3-772G enables a rapid, smooth and reliable connection to your home network for downloading music and films, or to WiFi hotspots for easier work-related internet use or a quick, spontaneous status update. There's an RJ45 plug on hand for a solid Ethernet connection too." I assume you noticed that the reviewer said nothing about gaming over your Wifi. The functions he described are a lot less intensive that high-end games.

The only three suggestions I can make are to install the free Win Patrol program and use it to disable unwanted start-up programs. Another is to lower the resolution on your higher-end games. These two steps will lower your Wifi load. A third suggestion is to make sure that you haven't accidentally logged on to your neighbor's Wifi.

If neither method works, repost and include the entire model number of your machine.

Might be an idea to try a wired connection and see if you get the same issues...

If no issues on wired, try turning off all your other wireless devices.

There are a multitude of things that can affect wifi, it's not necessarily a driver problem.

    Hello all,

First of all, i'm french, sorry for my english... i just bought a 772G with win 8.1 for my wife on 31 january 2014.

I had the same issues about wifi many people encouter : sometime no connection, sometime very poor connection.

I tried all the drivers available on the net. I even found the 10.0.0274 for win 8.1 :

    http://www.station-drivers.com/download/qualcomm/qualcomm_10.0.0.274(www.station-drivers.com).exe

They work fine, but didn't fixed my problem.

I was resigned to send back the computer to the seller, but i took the risk to open up the laptop (i read about antenna problems in drivers and a strange fix by using only one antenna). Anyway, i though it woud be hard but :

1/ I unpluged the power cord

2/ I removed the battery (pretty obvious)

3/ I used a precision screw drive to gently remove the screws from the bottom part of the computer (9 screws)

4/ I removed the bottom part (starting from the part nearest from the screen)

Apparently, that's not a problem for the warranty : it's the part you need to remove for HDD or RAM upgrade

I immediatly noticed two small cords (one black, one white) and the white was unplged, hanging there... on the metal part of the computer !!!

So, i plugged it back (the connector is round shaped), and fixed everything back in reverse order.

    Guess what? Everythink works perfectly!

    Hope it will help you...

    Hello everyone,

While our members are generally eager to provide useful information, be advised that Acer does not validate third party external links for downloads and is not responsible for them.

Acquiring files through such links is at the user’s own risk.

    Hi,

Those drivers are WHQL certified anyway. I agree that acer can't get them any official label, but microsoft did.

By the way, everything still works perfectly fine for me.
