Hi there. I have been, for the last 2 hours, scouring the internet to try and find out how to get out of no bootable device on my Acer aspire 5 laptop and nothing at all has worked and I'm just really stressed right now as I need everything for university.

I have tried: checking the system date and time. Setting a supervisory password and changing settings. Restoring the secure boot to factory default. Changing the boot mode from uefi to legacy which didn't work because my laptop doesn't have a legacy option. Turning off secure boot and turning it on. Holding the battery reset button on the bottom down for more than 30 seconds. Holding the power button down for more than 30 seconds. All to no avail. I can't find a single thing to do that I haven't tried. The only thing I'm thinking is to take it back to Currys pc world and talking to them about it but my family is pretty busy.

By the way I have only had this laptop since July or August and it was bought from Currys new. It is now only march. It should still be in warranty so hopefully they can fix it if I have time to go but is there anything else I can try. There's no troubleshooting option and no boot in safe mode.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Did you accidentally drop your laptop or drop something on it? How did this happen?

A 'no bootable device' error happens when the boot M.2 SSD drive is either faulty which and then it can't boot the OS, open the back cover and take the M.2 SSD out and clean its pins and reset the M.2 SSD drive into its slot again and try to boot the laptop and see if the laptop boots. But before you do this, you need to undo the back cover and a laptop under warranty could void its Acer warranty if the back cover is removed, so inquire about this with Acer in your country if it doesn't void the warranty when you open the laptops back cover?

Another option that can be done is to do a Hard Reset by doing this - Remove the eleven (11) screws securing the lower case to the upper case of the Nitro laptop, starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, continue releasing the remaining latches. Then remove the lower case.

Disconnect the main battery cable from the mobo and take the main battery out. then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug (as shown below) and then take the ran out.

Leave the laptop like that for at least 30 min (to reset the EC & Chipset chips) and then reconnect everything, if you have 2x ram modules, only connect 1x ram module and alternate the two ram modules and see if its not the ram that is faulty, as the laptop should turn on and not have the 'no bootable device' error.

If all the above doesn't fix the bootable M.2 drive, send your Nitro laptop (whatever model it is?) back to Curries and tell them that you need the data on the boot M.2 drive preserved, as you have all your valuable university data on it and you can't lose it and it needs to be recovered. Which will need Acer Tech Support to recover that data onto a new M.2 SSD boot drive that boots perfectly. be very specific about this as a new laptop should NOT have a faulty M.2 SSD boot drive that gives a 'no bootable device' error for a 7-8 month old laptop.

I didn't. I have been extra careful with this laptop after spilling pepsi on my old one 🤦🏻. I was in the middle of playing a Minecraft map and my laptop screen went black and it didn't come back on so I tried pressing windows+L twice to lock the screen and nothing happened so I held the power button to turn my laptop off and when I turned it on it said no bootable device and here I am now 😭. Never dropped it a single time luckily so I don't know what's happening.

Either your Windows is corrupted, your hard drive has failed, been removed from its position, or become loose for some reason.

    Repair Master Boot Record (MBR)

    • Windows Installation Media: If you have a Windows installation USB or DVD, insert it and boot from it. If you don't have then create it using any other windows system like you can get your friends help to create.
    • Repair Your Computer: Choose the option to repair your computer, then select Troubleshoot > Command Prompt.
    • Run Commands: Type the following commands one by one, pressing Enter after each:

    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

    • Restart Laptop: Exit Command Prompt and restart your laptop.

This above steps will probably fix your laptop if is windows.
