My laptop seems to overheat a lot from a single side ( the left side to be specific where the usb-c ports are) and it makes me think that the fan that is there to cool it is not working. I tried hearing for the sound and noticed that the right side fan is working fine and that side stays cool but the left side fan does not make any sound and that side stays hot. I bought this laptop last july and since then this side has stayed like this and i now noticed the fan. Should i go to the acer store or is it just a issue i can solve by a software?

That left side is where the fan and cooling fins are likely located. There usually isn't a fan on the right side. You don't tell us which Swift Go 14 model you have, and there have been a bunch of them over the years, in both Intel and AMD flavors, so we can't show you pictures. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SFG14-xxx-xxxx. If the fan is configured for Silent mode it will run hotter, if the cooling fins are building up dust it will run hotter, if you are running particularly taxing programs, like games, it will run hotter. It will also tend to run hotter when the charger is connected…

Overheating can be caused by poor ventilation, dust buildup, or failing cooling fans.

Prevention: Ensure that your computer is well-ventilated, regularly clean the dust from your components, and check that all cooling fans are functioning correctly. To help reduce the temperature, you can place the Laptop on a hard, flat surface, clean the air vents and fans, adjust power settings, use a cooling pad, or turn off the Laptop when not in use. If necessary, monitoring the temperature and consulting a professional is also recommended.

Get a powerful 5-fan cooling pad the size of your laptop and reduce the Max. Processor Power state to 95% when on power. Also use Balanced Power Plan instead of Maximum Performance Power Plan. Up to 95°C. under heavy load no issues, the CPU can sustain 100°C.Disable NVIDIA/AMD Dedicated graphics card for a while and test your temps. Also boot in safe mode and open task manager with GPU ENABLED and see if you can check the temperature. If its hot, then graphics is the issue. Undervolting means to decrease power draw for better cooling and higher clocks of the CPU and can be done using Throttle stop.

Outdated BIOS firmware or system drivers can sometimes cause hardware components to behave abnormally. To address this, visit the official Acer Support page and download the latest updates for your BIOS and system drivers. Additionally, dust and debris may clog the fans, preventing them from functioning properly. If you are comfortable, you can carefully open the laptop following Acer guidelines and clean the fans using compressed air. However, if you are unsure, it’s safer to let a professional handle this. Since your laptop is relatively new and likely under warranty (if purchased last July), I recommend visiting an authorized Acer service center.

My laptop is SFG14-71-58UB. I dont know about the silent mode or any other mode but in system usage it is said to be on performance mode.

Okay, for your SFG14-71 the service guide shows two modes for the fans, Normal and Silent, but they may have added a Performance mode after the SG was published. Performance mode is designed usually for gaming or other heavy tasks, and run the fans much higher than in Normal or Silent. Check in Acer Sense and Acer Care Center to see if the modes are listed, and which you are in.
